Recycled DIY Bird Feeder

In the Designer's Words: "I live on a fixed income, I love feeding the birds so i can watch them, they bring me a lot of joy. So after pricing birdfeeders at several places I thought there has to be a way for me to make my own. alls you need is Lays potato chip tube (I used lays instead of Pringles because it is plastic) and a lid larger than the diameter of the bottom of the tube."

Materials List

  • Lays Potato chip Tube
  • Lid - I used a coffee can lid because it was heavy duty
  • a screw
  • a ribbon or twine to hang it with

Instructions

  1. After you have enjoyed your chips and the tube is empty, wash it out.

  2. Do not lose the lid to the tube.

  3. Cut small holes in the bottom side of the tube, be sure not to make too large, I cut about a quarter inch wide and high hole.

  4. With a drill screw the coffee can lid to the bottom of the tube, be sure you have the lid upside down so it catches the feed and gives the birds a perch.

  5. At the top, poke 2 holes opposite each other and attach the ribbon/twine.

  6. Fill the tube, put on the lid and hang outside and watch the birds flock to it!

Why You'll Love This Recycled Craft

Here are the top 3 reasons why you should make the Recycled DIY Bird Feeder:

1. Budget-friendly: This craft project is not only a great way to upcycle materials you already have at home, but it also saves you money on purchasing a brand-new bird feeder. By using a Lays potato chip tube and a larger lid, you can create a functional and stylish bird feeder without breaking the bank.

2. Eco-friendly: By repurposing materials such as chip tubes and lids, you are reducing waste and helping the environment. This craft project is a great way to show your commitment to sustainability and give back to nature by providing food and shelter for birds in your backyard.

3. Personalized touch: Making your own bird feeder allows you to add a personal touch to your outdoor space. You can customize the design and colors to match your existing décor or create a unique look that reflects your personality. Plus, there's a sense of satisfaction in creating something with your own hands that will bring joy to both you and the birds.

We've done the pine cones, and peanut butter to death. Bagels too, they get boring after a while. We've done water bottles and wooden spoons to, that's a pain. This is going to be fantastic! I've been saving tubes from drink mix pouches. Now I know why, just need to rescue lids from the recycling. I'm wondering if I can use a strong adhesive instead of a screw, and how well the lid to the tube will hold with the extra weight of seed?
