Pumpkin Door Chain
Gather up all those lids you've been saving. This Pumpkin Door Chain from Amanda Formaro is a great way to put them to use! You can hang this cute Halloween pumpkin decor on your door, on a wall, or in the window. This is also a great project for kids. You could also use this same concept and create snowmen for Christmas. This recycled craft is a great way to clean out that recycling bin with the whole family!
Materials:
- 3 large canning lids and bands
- 3 medium canning lids and bands
- Orange and yellow card stock
- Patterned card stock
- Decoupage medium
- Nail and hammer or drill
- Needle nose pliers
- Hot glue gun
- Long shoe lace
Instructions:
-
Trace can lids onto card stock and cut out. Use contrasting papers to create facial pieces. Use decoupage medium to attach card stock circles to the can lids, then facial pieces onto the circles.
-
Poke a hole in each band using a hammer and nail. You will need to hammer from the inside of the band or you may bend the band. This will make the edges of the hole you create a bit sharp. Squeeze and flatten those edges with pliers and push them through the hole so that the sharper edges are now on the inside of the band.
-
Line the inside of the band with hot glue and insert the pumpkin lid, be sure to line up the face with the band hole positioned at the top!
-
Run a shoelace through all the holes. Tie into a knot at the top, leaving a loop to use as a hanger. Hot glue the excess inside the top pumpkin lid. Hot glue the excess shoestring at the bottom inside the last lid.
