Ruby's Slippers Halloween Idea
Here’s a fun twist on a Wizard of Oz costume. It’s easy enough to make as a gag gift, or for a grandma/mom named Ruby!
Materials:
- Purchased red slippers
- Kreinik #16 Iron-on Braid in 6450 Royal Blue
- Kreinik Teflon Press Cloth
- Mini iron or household iron
- Computer (optional)
Steps:
- Turn your iron onto the highest heat setting and let it heat thoroughly.
- If desired, print the name “Ruby” in a cursive font from your home computer, to be about the same size as your name on the shoe. Use this as a guide to follow when recreating the name in thread.
- Iron the blue Iron-on Braid onto your shoes, making the name “Ruby”. To do this, lay your thread at a starting point, cover with a Teflon Press Cloth, and press with your hot iron for a few seconds until the thread adheres. Continue in this way, working your design in sections. (TIP: we use a Clover Mini Iron, and wrapped a 3” x 4” Teflon Press Cloth around the foot. Secure with thread or string, and you have a Teflon-covered foot.)
