Corded Heart Necklace

Here is an easy project that makes an elegant gift - it's perfect for teens who don't have a lot of money to spend on presents, but want to give something meaningful and personal. You can make this easily with just a few colors of thread - pick shades to match an outfit, a birthstone, or a favorite color. Then use the new easier-to-use redesign of the Kreinik Custom Corder to make the cording.

Materials:

36" lengths of the following:

Kreinik Facets Silver
Kreinik Metallic #16 Braid 026V Vintage Amethyst
Kreinik Metallic #16 Braid 5010 Knight
Berocco Cotton Twist, color 8387 Soul
Silver heart charm
silver findings for finishing (end caps or ribbon end-crimps, clasp)

Steps:

Tie the Vintage Amethyst Braid and Silver Facets together at each end. Tie the ends of your Knight Braid and cotton yarn together at one end, then pull the other end of your braid through your Facets/Braid loop. Tie the other ends of the Knight Braid and cotton yarn together. You should now have two interlocking loops.
Hook one tied end of your Facet/Braid loop over a doorknob, a suction cup on the wall, another stationary object, or have a friend hold it. Place a tied end of your yarn/Braid loop around the hook of the Custom Corder and stand so the loops are taut. Begin twisting the thread using the corder. Twist tightly for a finer finished cord.
When finished twisting, place your "wedgie" in the corder, hold your end of the cord, and hang the corder over your knots in the center. Bring both ends together, give the corder a slight tug, then let the weight of the corder pull your cord down, twisting as it goes. Tie the ends of your finished cord together to hold it.
Determine the length you want for your necklace. Cut one end of your cord and slide your charm onto the cord. Knot the end again and finish with a silver end cap. Then cap the other end as well. Add your clasp and wear!
