Bright Red Pullover
Any little girl would love such a wonderful sweater like this one. The free knitting patterns from Bernat Yarns offered like this one have a fabulous texture to it. Cables and ribbing add nice detail.
SIZES
To fit chest measurement: 2 (4-6-8-10): 21 (23-25-26½-28) ins [53.5 (58.5-63.5- 67-71) cm].
Finished chest: 24 (27-28-30-32½) ins [61 (68.5-71-76-82.5) cm].
MATERIALS:
- Bernat® Chunky (Solids: 400 g/14 oz), 1 (1-1-1-2) ball(s)
- Sizes 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) and 6 mm (U.S. 10) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
- 1 cable needle.
- 4 st holders.
GAUGE: 15 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

C6B(F ) = slip next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at Back (Front) of work. K3, then K3 from cable needle.
Steps:
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Panel Pat (worked over 16 sts).
1st row: (RS). P2. C6B. C6F. P2.
2nd to 8th rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.
BACK
**With smaller needles, cast on 45 (51-53- 57-61) sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows 3 times more.**
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures
8½ (9½-11½-12½-14) ins [21.5 (24-29-32-35.5) cm], ending with a purl row.
Shape raglans: Cast off 2 (2-2-3-3) sts beg of next 2 rows. 41 (47-49-51-55) sts.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on 3rd and every following 4th row 1 (0-1-2-3) time(s), then every following alt row to 19 (21-23- 23-25) sts, ending with a purl row. Leave rem sts on a st holder.
FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). K17 (20-21-23-25). (Inc 1 st in next st. K1) 5 times. Knit to end of row. 50 (56-58-62-66) sts.
2nd row: P17 (20-21-23-25). K2. P12. K2. Purl to end of row.
3rd row: K17 (20-21-23-25). Work 1st row of Panel Pat. Knit to end of row.
4th row: P17 (20-21-23-25). Work 2nd row of Panel Pat. Purl to end of row. Panel Pat is now in position.
Cont in pat until work from beg measures same length as Back, ending with a purl
row.
Shape raglans: Cast off 2 (2-2-3-3) sts beg of next 2 rows. 46 (52-54-56-60) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle on 3rd and every following 4th row 1 (0-1-2-3) time(s), then every following alt row to 34 (36-40- 42-44) sts.
Neck shaping: Next row: K2tog. K10 (10-11-12-12) sts (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then every following alt row 3 times, AT SAME TIME, dec 1 st at raglan edge on every following alt row 4 (4-5-6-6) times. 2 sts.
Next row: P2tog. Fasten off.
With RS of work facing, slip next 10 (12-14-14-16) sts onto a st holder. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then every following alt row 3 times, AT SAME TIME, dec 1 st at raglan edge on every following alt row 4 (4-5-6-6) times. 2 sts.
Next row: P2tog. Fasten off.
SLEEVES
With smaller needles, cast on 21 (23-23- 27-27) sts.
Work in (K1. P1) ribbing as given for Back for 8 rows.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st inc 1 st each end of needle on
5th and every following 4th row to 31 (33- 33-31-35) sts, then every following 6th row to 37 (41-43-45-49) sts.
Cont even until work from beg measures 9 (11-12-13-14) ins [23 (28-30.5-33-35.5) cm], ending with a purl row.
Shape raglans: Cast off 2 (2-2-3-3) sts beg of next 2 rows. 33 (37-39-39-43) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle on 1st (1st-1st- 5th-5th) row and every following alt row to 7 (11-9-9-9) sts, then every row to 5 (5-7- 7-7) sts. Leave rem sts on a st holder.
FINISHING
Pin pieces to measurements and cover with a damp cloth leaving to dry on garment.
Collar: Sew raglan seams, leaving left back raglan open. With RS of work facing and smaller needles, K5 (5-7-7-7) from left sleeve st holder. Pick up and knit 7 (7-9-11- 11) sts down left front neck edge. K10 (12-14-14-16) sts from front st holder, dec 2 sts evenly across. Pick up and knit 7 (7-9- 11-11) sts up right front neck edge. K5 (5-7-7-7) from right sleeve st holder, K19 (21-23-23-25) sts from back st holder, dec 2 sts evenly across. 49 (53-65-69-73) sts. Work in (K1. P1) ribbing as given for Back for 2 ins [5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off in rib.
Sew back raglan and Collar seam. Fold Collar to WS and sew along pick up row.
Sew side and sleeve seams.

Love this pattern but then love all the patterns in Favecrafts. It makes me want to save all the patterns or as my husband says use all the ink printing them for friends at our knitting group who havent got access to a computer but love all the patterns i show them

I made this sweater with a double strand of Encore DK yarn. Rather than the sleeve pattern shown here, I opted to square off the front and back, sew the shoulder seams and knit the sleeves out from the shoulder. The length directions were adjusted, and I just made sure that the decreases were correct when I got down to the sleeve ribbing.
