Tee Shirt Beaded Necklace

This Tee Shirt Beaded Necklace is a great way to reuse an old tee shirt. Add a little string of pearls to turn this necklace from drab to fab! The great thing about this tee shirt craft is that you can wear it day or night, and it's a great way to dress up or down any outfit. Mix and match tee shirts to create a multi-colored tee shirt necklace that's unlike anything on the market today.

Materials:

An old tee shirt
Scissors
Pearls

Instructions:

First lay your tee shirt out flat. Starting at the bottom, cut strips about 1 inch wide. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just eyeball it.
Once your strips have been cut (I stopped cutting as soon as I got to the sleeves), gently stretch them out one by one.
You could use a scrap piece of tee shirt material or a heavy duty piece of thread to thread the pearls. I used some left over tee shirt material that I stretched until it was super thin. I used a knitting needle to thread the pearls onto the fabric thread.
Depending on the size of the tee shirt, you should be able to wrap the strips around your neck twice. That’s what I did and then I tied the string of pearls to the doubled up strips of tee shirt fabric.

I suppose this IS a great way to use up any stash of random beads you have been collecting! If you wanna cheat just a bit you would go to the craft store in the jewelry department and have your pick of any stand of pearls you wanted! You could change it up and do crystals, beads, all sorts of stuff. Cool idea!

I made this with a lavender and white striped shirt, and lavender pearl beads. It is beautiful. Seeing this, I have some ideas of color combinations I'm wearing now, so I'm going to look through my shirts and find one or two I don't wear any more. Then I can get into my huge bead stash!

This t-shirt necklace is such a clever project! The multiple strands really show as a very unique visual interest! You could mix it up by adding another pearl strand or two, or even different colored beads. Perhaps even keep the strands loose so you could have as few or as many strands as you wish to go with different necklines ...whatever looks best. Thanks for a fun and practical project!
