Crochet Christmas Ornaments
Crochet miniature holiday accents, a striped stocking or candy cane, for your Christmas tree. Red and green metallic thread captures that Christmas sparkle.
Materials:
- Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid™ in 003 Red and 100 White
- Kreinik Fine (#8) Braid in 008 Green, 003 Red, 238 Christmas
- Number 3 steel crochet hook
- Size B crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- 5 inches of 28-gauge craft wire
Instructions for Candy Cane:
Holding red and white braid together, chain 35. Drop red, do notfasten off.
Row 1: With white, and holding wire beside chain, single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each remaining chain around wire; turn.
Row 2: Chain 2, half double crochet in first single crochet, 2 half double crochet in each remaining stitch; turn.
Row 3: Repeat Row 2. Cut white, leaving a 6-inch tail.
Row 4: Pick up red, single crochet in each chain on opposite side of foundation chain.
Rows 5-6: Repeat Rows 2 and 3.
Finish: adjust twist so red and white stripes are even. Twist ends together and work in threads to secure. Bend top of the wire to curve into a candy cane shape.
Instructions for Mini Stocking:
Starting at toe and using Fine (#8) Braid 238 Christmas, chain 4.
Round 1: 10 double crochet in 4th chain from hook. Join with slip stitch to top of chain-3.
Round 2: Chain 3, 2 double crochet in each double crochet; join.
Round 3: Using red, chain 3, double crochet in each double crochet; join.
Round 4: Using green braid, chain 3, double crochet in each double crochet; join.
Round 5: With red, chain 3. * double crochet in next double crochet, 2 double crochet in next double crochet, repeat from * around; join.
Round 6: With green, repeat Round 4.
Round 7: With color 238, chain 1, single crochet in same space as slip stitch and in next 4 double crochet, half double crochet in next 4 double crochet, double crochet in next 2 double crochet, 2 double crochet in each of next 2 double crochet, 2 triple crochet in next double crochet, 2 double crochet in each of next 2 double crochet, double crochet in next 2 double crochet, half double crochet in next 4 double crochet, single crochet in next 5 double crochet; join to first single crochet.
Round 8: Chain 1, single crochet in same space as slip stitch and in next 4 single crochet, half double crochet in next 4 half double crochet, double crochet in next 2 double crochet, (yarn over, insert hook in next double crochet and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice; yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook [joined double crochet made]. Work joined double crochet in next double crochet; * yarn over twice, (insert hook in next stitch and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Repeat from * then yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook [joined triple crochet made]. Work 2 joined double crochet in next 4 double crochet, double crochet in each of next 2 double crochet, half double crochet in each of next 4 half double crochet, single crochet in each of next 5 single crochet; join.
Round 9: Chain 1, single crochet in same space as slip stitch and in next 4 single crochet, half double crochet in next 4 half double crochet, double crochet in next 3 double crochet, (yarn over, insert hook in next double crochet and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook); * yarn over twice, (insert hook in next stitch and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. (Yarn over, insert hook in next double crochet and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook [2 double crochet and triple crochet joined]. Double crochet in each of next 2 double crochet, half double crochet in each of next 4 half double crochet, single crochet in each of next 5 single crochet; join.
Rounds 10-19: Repeat Rounds 3 and 4.
Round 20: Finish off red and green. Attach color 238, chain 1, single crochet in each stitch; join. Then single crochet left to right; at center back, chain 10 to make a loop, single crochet in same space and each stitch to end. Finish off.
