Materials List
- A canvas pillow cover
- Pillow form
- Fabric paint
- Kitchen sponges
- Freezer paper
- Scissors or a craft knife
- Iron
Instructions
-
Find a design or image and print it on a large sheet of paper, the size you want it on the pillow.
-
Lay the freezer paper shiny side down on the print and trace around the image.
-
Cut out the design, but don't forget about the pieces that comprise the insides of letters! Save those for later.
-
Lay the shiny side of the freezer paper on the pillow cover, along with the little pieces inside the letters, and lay the cotton cloth over the top. Iron it on. The shiny side becomes adhesive and sticks to your pillow cover.
-
Insert a magazine or something similar inside the pillowcase to prevent the paint from bleeding through.Â
-
Using a kitchen sponge, dab color inside the designs and onto the fabric.
-
Let dry for 24 hours.
-
Peel away the freezer paper and insert the pillow form. This project works great with canvas tote bags as well!

Have you ever seen a pillow that you loved with that special saying or picture and then got sticker shocked. They are quite pricy so why buy it. Make it yourself with this video to help you along the way and don't forget everyone loves pillows in their home so make some for gifts too.

I would have never thought of this! Wow, this sounds feasible for even the worst of crafters (me...agh).

I cannot wait to try this project. If I am successful making this simple project, I know I can graduate to other stencil projects that I would love to attempt. Having a video just gives me that much more confidence.

Wow! Is it not amazing what you can do with freezer paper and a little paint. So, if you can not find the exact stencil that you want, you can make it yourself. This video tutorial is right on point. Thanks for sharing.

This is one the best hacks I've seen in a while. I would have never guessed there was another (practical) use for the freezer paper I bought for a one-time use. I think I want to make a few of these for my friends' apartments this year. Thanks!

I like the idea of individualizing the pillows and bags like that. It looks so easy and hassel free. I need to see if I can find freezer paper in this country. I would love to try that idea out!
