I have been making my grand dtr these kind of tee dresses for a few years when she gets a bit tall add a pair of shorts I like to take a fat quarter cut long wise in half sew the ends together and either gather or pleat the skirt the next year I add a ruffle to the bottom of the skirt cutting the FQ in thirds long wise and adding that ruffle to the skirt I either embroider on the shirt or applique something never thought of the jeans legs we have been collecting from her brothers I did find that her brother's jeans are just right for a jeans skirt for her she just turned and he's add a bit of elastic in the waist back to snug it up I made a jeans jacket from some legs to go with it she wore it to the rodeoRead More thank you for this great idea

I have a mentally HC 15 y.o. daughter who loves dresses and LOTS of long and short sleeved shirts $1 - $3 each. B/c she's tall & thin, she must wear size 14 jeans for length; but I have to take up the elastic strips w/ the buttons (thank goodness for those!) quite a bit. So when she outgrows the length of her jeans the width is still too big. That will make using the top part for skirts a complete no-brainer! Thanks so much for the video as well.

I am very very new at sewing and I am wondering if just a basic sewing machine like mine will sew through the fell seam? I am guessing at that term "fell". That is what it sounded like you said. If it isn't please excuse my ignorance lol.

you might want to use a denim sewing needle, take abit of denim from an area you are not going to us and see how it does. also because of the heavy fabric and the knit shirt you should use a new needle and probably change it after the 2nd or 3rd one, if you have trouble with the thread breaking try a new needle before you get frustrated, and don't forget to clean the race - the area under and around the bobbin denim is dusty. good luck sewing.

I am certainly going to try this! i have some jeans that are way to big, a little cut here... and a few stitches there...and ta-da!! looks very easy, can't wait to get my hands on this project.
