Materials:
- An old dress or skirt
- Zipper with double pull tab
Instructions:
- This double pull tab zipper was sitting in my drawer for about a year now so I know it’s her time to rock! You can buy one from the fabric store. It comes with several colors. I personally love gold and picked metallic material for a bolder look. The tabs go on the same direction so you will have to make it like I did.
- You have to remember though when cutting your metallic zipper you do not use your fabric scissors as it will hurt its shiny jaws.
- Separate the bodice from the skirt of your dress. You might want to keep the bodice for your next refashion…
- Take the skirt and turn it inside out. Then cut off the side seams 8-10 inches from the bottom creating slits. This will serve as your armhole…
- Pin your fabric onto your zipper right sides together. Meaning, the right side of the zipper should be touching the fabric’s right side raw edge above the slits. With its wrong side facing you, sew along the zipper teeth as close as you can. Be careful not to hit its teeth as it could break your needle.
- Once the zipper is sewn on it should look like this…
- The concept is like sewing a purse, you have to sew underneath then run a top stitch so the fabric is out of the way once the zipper does the job.
