Denim Pocket Purse
Looking for crafts using old denim jeans? Make a Denim Pocket Purse from Debbie Madson. It's super stylish and fun. Best of all, you can recycle an old pair of jeans!
Materials:
- Old pair of jeans
- Tote bag strap
Instructions:
-
Cut out the front leg of your jeans including the waistband and front pocket. You just want the front panel for this project.
-
Fold jeans in half, if it is longer than you'd like trim off excess on the end. Hem the bottom of the pant leg.
-
Fold jeans in half right sides together. Trim to match edges if needed. Pin sides and sew along two side edges. Turn right sides out.
- Attach a strap by sewing it onto the sides of the bag. We've used tote bag straps but you can also try a belt, tie, cording, strip of jeans, etc.

I have some jeans that do not fit and I now know what is going to be made out of them. Some pocket purses. This is such a super idea and I like that you recycle clothing. This is also a great beginner project too. I think I will make some to carry pencils, pens and some other school supplies, and also one for my grand daughters hair supplies. Can you make them larger for blow dryer and hot irons to take on trip? Thanks for idea.

I made this many, many years ago. I put my camera inside, film in other pocket and batteries in the tiny pocket. This project is a good purpose for lots and lots of items.

Someone made a purse like this when I was a teenager, and for years I have been trying to find such a pattern! My daughter just gave me some jeans to give away, but I think they are going to be recycled like this... Malibowers

I'm really excited to make this project...thinking about adding a belt and maybe beads or flowers or fringe.....all kinds of possibilities. Using a belt as a strap could also be a good idea.

I found this project to be really easy and great fun for my granddaughter and I to do. Also, all her friends loved it too!

I do a more "no-sew" version of these for kids made just from the back pocket of the jeans. Use fabric scissors to trim all the way around the pocket to include BOTH layers. This creates a little pouch. You can finish the unfinished edge at the top with some ribbon or a quick whipstitch and sew a strip of denim or some ribbon in for the handle. I like to add a fabric yo-yo or some kind of recycled fabric flower or cute buttons for some flair.

It looks to me that you cut only one layer of the jeans, also cut jeans just before the zipper. You can make two purses out of one pair of jeans. ( You could probably use the back of the jeans to make two more) Hope this is correct and will help. Looking forward to making this purse.

These instructions are very sketchy. What do you do with the zipper? What do you mean by the front leg. Both the legs on jeans are front. Do you mean the front part of the leg? Please help. This looks like a great idea!
