Fun Camping Butt-Kits
Make some fun crafts for camping purposes. This craft from Jamielyn Nye is great because you can sit your butt on the bucket around the campfire or stash all your candy for a crazy time. Mod podge is required.
Materials:
- 15 Gallon Bucket
- Scrap Fabric
- Mod Podge
- Batting
- Foam
- Hot Glue Gun
- Ribbon
Instructions:
- You start out with a 15 gallon bucket. You can get these for free at Sam's or Costco in the Bakery (frosting tubs).
- You could spray paint your bucket, but I didn't have time for that...so it stayed white.
- I found some scraps I had and measured around the bucket. Cut accordingly.
- Next you'll need some mod podge! Start in 4 inch sections (so the glue doesn't dry) and begin wrapping your fabric around, pushing all the bubbles out as you go.
- For the seat you can make it as "comfy" as you want. I used about 3 layers of batting and one layer of foam. Cut in a circle to match the lid top and hot glue together. After that is dry wrap fabric tightly around the top and tuck sides under with hot glue.
- Next comes the frill! I chose to wrap a big fat ribbon around mine and then tie little ribbons on the handle. You could tie ribbon all the way around the handle which would be super cute! You could get as creative as you'd like!
*Some readers also had some great ideas to do with these buckets... use them as storage in kids rooms, going on picnics or ball games. You can also use them as cheer leading buckets! For the lid we measured and cut out a thin piece of plywood. That we layered with foam, batting and fabric, stapling to the plywood. We then used ultra super heavy duty Velcro tape to adhere to the lid. It also allowed us to change out fabric with each season of cheer.

Please tell me, what is 'Mod Podge? I don't think we have it in England, or else it has another name.

Mod Podge is a brand named product. It is a glue used to make decoupage. Make your own with 3 parts white glue and one part water. use a paintbrush or sponge to apply.

I buy kitty litter in plastic buckets, they are not as round, but a little taller. Of course littler butts would not mind. I keep the empty buckets in my garage and they are so useful. Now another use, something to sit on while I work in my garden.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have been looking for this (type) of pattern for AGES now. Thanks so much!! Wanted to make them as gifts for my youngest nieces and nephews. That way they would have something fun to carry all their stuff in for car rides, etc.

what's wrong with just sitting on the bucket with lid? Cover it with fabric and go camping and you'll have a dirty lid that you can't run through the wash, because it's glued on... I found a lid that's shaped for sitting upon. enough is enough....

WalMart still sells 5gal buckets, but the lid is sold separately. I never tried to ask about getting any for free, but I have seen plenty of people still getting them, along with banana crates and such. (Indiana)

Also check local restaurants. Pickles come in the 5 gallon buckets. I have gotten a lot of free pickle buckets in my life. :)

A little fancy for the woods but, great for both carrying things and setting on. We used to make these for the kids to go fishing. They could put their tackle box, lunch and a sweater or sweatshirt in the bottom and have a place to set too.

FYI WalMart and Sam's no longer give away these buckets, at least not here in Georgia, they received memo from their headquarters that they send these back to warehouse for recycling. It was a great source while it lasted. :0( I now go to the grocery stores that have a bakery/cake decorating station and ask peridical;ly for these buckets---but since they do smaller scale of cake decorating--it's a catch as can plan.
