Macrame Wall Hanging for Beginners
Macrame Wall Hanging for Beginners

"There are so many beautiful macramé wall hangings on my Pinterest boards; I want to make them all! However, before tackling a complicated pattern, I needed to get my feet wet with a simpler, basic macramé design. I stumbled upon the perfect pattern (it is both lovely and moderately easy), but there was a slight problem. The instructions were in French. So, after an afternoon of translating along with some rope-knotting trial and error, I ended up with this sweet, little wall-hanging. This pattern is an easy one for beginners, and it looks awesome, right? It’s a shame to let all my verb conjugations go to waste, so I’m sharing the instructions with you! All you need is a dowel rod, clothesline rope, and scissors!"

Materials List

  • dowel rod, 7/8" circumference, 28" long
  • 2 ceramic drawer knobs to use as finials
  • Five 100 ft. rolls of cotton clothesline
  • masking or painter's tape
  • scissors

NotesDetailed instructions are shown on my blog post, along with photos. Don't be intimidated. This is the perfect project for beginners; you are sure to get "hooked!"

OMGosh I made these in the '70's lots of them, all my windows had Macram curtains. This is a great beginner piece.

I've always wanted to try macrame but didn't know that I could find easy instructions for beginners! Thank you for sharing.

I am a crocheter who used to do macrame when she was a young girl. I cannot believe that it is back in fashion! I used to do hanging planters. Now, I prefer these wall hangings instead. The look is very chic and can be as simple or as intricate as you want. I would likely need lots of refresher time before starting this, though! What a fine looking piece of fiber art!

thank you so much!
