Spread the love all year long. Textured Heart Decor from Tiffany Windsor goes great with any set up and makes a great gift. You'll love this fantastic home craft tutorial.
Materials:
- Paper (for pattern)
- Marking pen
- Scissors
- Craft knife
- Canvas (finished example is 4" x 4")
- Plain plastic for stencil (I used shrink plastic)
- Texture paste
- Palette knife
- Stencil paint creme (I used pink, purple, yellow, copper)
- Stencil brushes (I use one brush for each color)
- Background design stencil
- Wet wipes
- Paper towels
Instructions:
- Fold paper in half and draw heart.
- Cut heart pattern from paper.
- Place on canvas to determine if right shape and size. Cut down to size if needed.
- Trace pattern on to shrink plastic or stencil plastic.
- Cut inside heart pattern. I like to use a craft knife to start my cut and then finish with scissors.
- Remember that you are cutting the inside of the cut from the plastic. This will create a stencil. Be sure that you leave plenty of stencil plastic around the outside of your heart. This will help to keep the extra paste off your canvas.
- Place stencil on canvas. For the next step, I just hold the stencil in place but if you like, you can also add double stick tape to the back of the stencil to help hold it in place on the canvas while you apply your texture paste.
- Squeeze a generous amount of texture paste on canvas.
- Use your palette knife to spread around.
- Keep hold of your stencil so it does not move around the canvas while you continue to move your paste with the palette knife.
- Carefully lift the stencil straight up to reveal the textured heart pattern. Set aside to dry overnight.
- Load stencil paint creme onto stencil brushes. I like to have my brushes pre-loaded with color before I start painting my project.
- Re-align stencil pattern back over dried texture paste.
- Apply stencil paint creme with stencil brush in a swirling motion in desired areas changing to new colors and blending the paint as you go.
- Remove stencil.
- Apply background color to canvas (I used copper in my example. It may take two coats of this color to get a rich copper color. Be sure to color the dimensional sides of the heart.
- Let project set overnight. Stencil on background pattern with yellow paint creme. Let dry (this may take several days before paint is dry to the touch.
