American Girl Crochet Hat
Make a beautiful American Girl crochet hat with this free crochet pattern from Lisa Hamblin that will dress up your girl's doll. Save a little money by making your own doll accessories.
Materials:
- Red Heart 4 ply, worsted weight acrylic yarn (black) - Main Color (MC)
- Red Heart Sport Weight Yarn (small amount of black with shiny filament) - Contrasting Color (CC)
- Hook Size J
- Tapestry Needle

Stitches: ch, hdc, hdc2tog, sl st.
Difficulty: MEDIUM
Steps:
R1: Working with two strands of MC at once, ch3, work 9hdc in 3rd ch from hook. (10hdc)
Join with sl st in top of beg ch3.
R2: Ch2, do not turn. 2hdc in ea st. (20hdc)
Join with sl st in top of beg ch2.
R3: Rep R2 (40hdc)
R4: Ch2, do not turn. Hdc in next st. Hdc2tog.
(Hdc in next 2 sts. Hdc2tog) around.
Rs5-6: Ch2, do not turn. Hdc in ea st. Join with sl st in top of beg ch2.
R7: Ch2, do not turn. 2hdc in ea st. Join with sl st in top of beg ch2.
Fasten Off.
FINISHING
Using a yarn needle, weave two strands of CC yarn through base of R6 and tie a bow.
You can turn the hat so the bow is on the side, back or in the front - your choice.

I have made hats for my girls' dolls and they love them. You can use any preemie pattern and they fit.

It would be nice to have an outfit to go with the hat! I will be making this over the winter for my little sweetheart and her American Girl Doll that I bought for her 2 yrs ago. I have a lot of sewing stuff for the doll but very little crochet and I love to crochet so much more than sewing.

I have 1 granddaughter that has an American Doll, and I've been making clothes for that doll for 2 years now. Another granddaughter will receive her first American Doll for Christmas this year, and I'm making clothes for her. Thanks for this pattern, and look forward to other AD clothes/hat patterns.

I prefer to make hats for people rather than dolls. I have made quite a few ladies' hats, lots of beanies or "warmy" hats for guys, several chemo hats, and lots of hats for children. I just finished a "Little Man's Hat" for a little guy I know. He will love it. I don't sell them; I give them away.

I made 5 hats for my great-granddaughters. Good way to use leftover yarn. I decorated them with scraps of my left-over crafting ribbon, lace,etc. Needless to say, I have orders for lots more. I would like a pattern for matching dresses for mommies and dolls. Thanks Maymay
