Materials:
- Armour’s Etch Bath®
- Plastic Container
- Glass Paint
- Contact® Shelving Vinyl
- Pencil
- Hobby Knife
- Glass Cleaner
- Masking Tape
- Running Water
- Paper Towels
Steps:
- Clean glass with glass cleaner and apply vinyl masking. Cover everything that will remain clear (not etched).
- Using a pencil draw an oval round the middle portion of the glass. Use a hobby knife to cut along the line. Remove the bottom portion of masking.
- Use additional vinyl masking to cover the entire top of the glass (the open portion), by placing the top of the glass face down on the adhesive side of the masking paper. Fold up the edges making sure to form a tight seal at all the seams. You may need to cut smaller pieces and place them over any areas that may leak.
- Place your glass in a plastic bucket and add water until it covers all the exposed glass. Remove your glass and mark the height of the water that is in the container, on the outside of the container with a marker.
- Empty out the water and dry the container and glass project thoroughly.
- Fill the container with Etch Bath to the line you just made. Place the martini glass into the Etch Bath. The level should rise to the same height as before. Sumerge the glass for 5 to 10 minutes or more, depending on the type and hardness of the glass. Use glove covered hands.
- Remove glass from Etch Bath and rinse under running water.
- Remove masking and clean with glass cleaner.
- Place some glass paint on the etched surface and using a straw, blow to push the paint to create an abstract design. Use different colors to enhance the effect. Be sure to follow the instructions for use and safety from the glass paint manufacturer and Etch Bath bottle.
