Simple Felt Christmas Tree Ornament
Homemade Christmas ornaments add a touch of fun and originality to any tree. If you're new to the world of sewing or just want to use up some old fabric, create a Simple Felt Christmas Tree Ornament from Heather Valentine. It's a quick and easy excuse to get creative.
Materials:
- 4″ x 4″ felt in green
- Small scrap of brown felt
- 10″ of ribbon
- Star button is optional
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Hot glue
Note: Tip-a rotary cutter & self healing mat will come in handy but not necessary. Scissors will work just fine.
Instructions:
-
Cut green felt into the following strips. (1) 3/4″ wide by 2 1/2″ long and (2) 3/4″ wide by 4″ long. Cut 1 brown strip 3/4″ wide by 2 1/2″ long.
-
Take the 2 1/2″ long green strip and place the brown felt at a right angle on center. Match edge and stitch. Match opposite end and repeat. This will create a loop along the bottom edge of your tree.
-
Fold ribbon in half and sandwich between the two longer strips of green felt. Straight stitch along top edge. At the very end of strip, insert your folded ribbon between the layers and stitch.
-
Match each long strip to a side of the bottom strip and stitch in place.
-
To finish my ornament off, I added a star button. (please don’t tell anyone but I cheated and attached it with hot glue.)
