Fidget/Sensory Blanket for Alzheimer's
"This blanket was designed for a cause- to spread hope, comfort and stability to all those struggling with alzheimers and other diseases that could leave them struggling with memory and cognitive abilities. It is also a blanket that toddlers and children with special needs can use to develop motor skills. Granted, there are fidget blankets you can buy. But I like to believe that if we are blessed with the ability and have the skill to create something, we should never hesitate to use it for a good cause. Make as many of this blanket as you can, and donate them!"

This reminds me of the "fidget mitt" I made for a LYS charity drive for a nursing home a few years ago. It also looks a LOT like the activity mats I've seen in the baby toddler toy aisle at Walmart. I already crochet items each year for my town's annual Christmas charity, and this would make a wonderful gift for a young or special-needs child, in addition to the stuffed animal toys I've made in the past. I also like @princess6860504's suggestion of attaching a snap-flap pocket from an old shirt to one of the squares.

Ingenious idea. The world needs more loving and caring people to create things like this. I see there are no snaps on there. That might be a good add-on. Here's how I would do that cut off a pocket of two from old shirts- the kind of pockets that have the fold over snap on it. You can just sew the pocket with flap and snap in its entirety onto the blanket. This is a great idea for a toddler, too, of course!
