Flower Patch Baby Afghan

Size: 40” x 40”
Materials:
- 620 yards Hushabye Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- 385 yards White Red Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- 50 yards Baby Pink Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- 40 yards Pale Blue Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- 40 yards Pale Green Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- 30 yards Maize Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- H and I crochet hook or size needed for gauge
- Tapestry needle
- Color Placement Diagram
Gauge: Square measures 5 ¼” across
Stitch guide:
Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Slip Stitch (sl st)
Squares: (make 49 – see Color Placement Diagram)
Rnd 1 – With color and H hook ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to beg sc.
Rnd 2 – Ch 4, dc in same sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch around, join to beg ch 3 and fasten off.
Rnd 3 – Join white with a sl st in any ch 1 sp, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch 1 sp, rep fom * around, join to top of beg ch 2.
Rnd 4 – Sl st into corner ch 2 sp, (sc, ch 3, sc) in same sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch 3 sp (2 times), ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch 3 sp, rep from * around, join to beg sc and fasten off.
Rnd 5 – With I hook join hushabye with a sl st in any corner ch 3 sp, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same sp, *3 dc in each ch 3 sp across, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in corner ch 3 sp, rep from * around, join to top of beg ch 2 and fasten off.
Joining:
With hushabye whipstitch squares together having 7 rows of 7 squares each.
Edging:
Rnd 1 – With H hook and white (sc, ch 3, sc) in any ch 3 corner sp, *ch 3, skip 3 dc, sc in next dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc, rep until joining, ch 3, sc in ch sp before joining, ch 3, sc in first dc after joining, rep pattern across until corner, (sc, ch 3, sc) in corner ch 3 sp, rep from * around afghan, join to beg sc and fasten off. Do not turn.
Rnd 2 – With I hook and hushabye (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in any corner ch 3 sp, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each ch 3 sp across, (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 3 corner sp, continue pattern around afghan, join to beg sc. Do not turn.
Rnd 3 – Sl st into ch 2 corner sp, (sc, ch 3, sc) in same sp, *skip 1 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each of next 2 dc, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each ch 2 sp across, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch 2 corner sp, rep from * around afghan, join to beg sc and fasten off.

This is a lovely afghan/baby blanket in a very nice size. I love the color combination for a boy or a girl, though it could be made more masculine with primary colors. Just pick up solids to match the variegated yarn. Its also a good Summer project since you can crochet the squares on the go and assemble the blanket when the weather turns cooler.

Finally! A close up picture of what the afghan pattern looks like. Wish they were all like this.
