Pretty Pink Crochet Afghan and Pillow Set
Make a beautiful afghan and pillow set that's perfect for a baby's nursery with one of Roseanna Beck's free and easy crochet patterns. Pastel pink paired with a shell stitch give this afghan-and-pillow set a delicate, yet intricate look. You could also make this afghan for a little boy by using soft blue or green yarn. Materials:
For Afghan
- H crochet hook or size needed for guage
- 470 yds. White Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- 890 yds. Baby Pink Red Heart 4-ply yarn
For Pillow
- 90 yds. White Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- 110 yds. Baby Pink Red Heart 4-ply yarn
- G crochet hook or size needed for gauge
- Polyfiber fill
- ½ yd. white polyster lining
Gauge:
- For Afghan: 4 row pattern – 3”; Sh St, V St, Sh St, V St – 4”
- For Pillow: 3 row pattern – 3”; Sh St, V St, Sh St, V St – 4”
Special Stitch:
- Shell Stitch (Sh St) – 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc
- V St – 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc
Instructions:
Afghan Size: 40” x 50”
- Row 1 – With pink ch 154 st, Sh St in 7th ch from hook, *skip 3 ch, V St in next ch, skip 3 ch, Sh St in next ch, rep from * across alternating Sh St and V St ending with a Sh St, skip 2 ch, work 1 dc in last ch, ch 3 and turn. (19 Sh St and 18 V St)
- Row 2 – V St in first ch 2 sp of Sh St, Sh St in ch 2 sp of V St, rep across alternating V St and Sh St, ending work 1 dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
- Row 3 – Sh St in first ch 2 sp of V St, V St in next ch 2 sp of Sh St, rep across alternating Sh St and V St, ending work 1 dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
- Row 4 – Repeat Row 2, fasten off and turn.
- Row 5 – Join white with a sl st in dc, ch 2, Sh St in first V St, V St in next Sh St, rep across alternating Sh St and V St, ending work 1 dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
- Row 6 – Repeat Row 2 and fasten off.
- Repeat pattern sequence of 4 rows pink and 2 rows white for 11 sequences then 4 more rows of pink for a total of 70 rows.
Edging:
- Work along bottom edge and starting at left edge join white with a sl st in ch st below first Sh St, (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp, (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch st below V St, rep across ending (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in last ch st below Sh St, work along straight edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in last ch of beg chs, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each dc across ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in first dc of V St, work along top edge (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each ch 2 sp across, work along straight edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in top of first dc of row, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each dc across ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch before first Sh St, join to beg sc and fasten off.
Baby Pillow
10 ½” x 11”
Pillow Squares (Make 2)
- Row 1 – With pink ch 42 st, Sh St in 7th ch from hook, *skip 3 ch, V St in next ch, skip 3 ch, Sh St in next ch, rep from * across alternating Sh St and V St ending with a Sh St, skip 2 ch, work 1 dc in last ch, ch 3 and turn. (5 Sh St and 4 V St)
- Row 2 – V St in first ch 2 sp of Sh St, Sh St in ch 2 sp of V St, rep across alternating V St and Sh St, ending work 1 dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
- Row 3 – Sh St in first ch 2 sp of V St, V St in next ch 2 sp of Sh St, rep across alternating Sh St and V St, ending work 1 dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
- Row 4 – Join white with a sl st in dc, ch 2, V St in first Sh St, Sh St in next V St, rep across alternating V St and Sh St, ending work 1 dc in last dc, ch 3 and turn.
- Row 5– Repeat Row 3 and fasten off.
- Repeat pattern sequence of 3 rows pink and 2 rows white 1 time then 3 more rows of pink for a total of 13 rows.
Pillow Lining
- Make a 9” x 10” pillow lining leaving one side open and fill with the polyfiber fill. Sew remaining side when filled.
Edging and Joining
- With wrong sides together work through both sides. Work the following edging inserting the pillow before finishing the last side.
- Work along bottom edge and starting at left edge join white with a sl st in ch st below first Sh St, (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp, (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch st below V St, rep across ending (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in last ch st below Sh St, work along straight edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in last ch of beg chs, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each dc across ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in first dc of V St, work along top edge (sc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each ch 2 sp across, work along straight edge (sc, ch 3, sc) in top of first dc of row, (sc, ch 3, sc) in each dc across ending (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch before first Sh St, join to beg sc and fasten off.

I love this awesome pillow and afghan set. I am considering getting some blue yarn and making it for a baby boy instead. My very first nephew is due to arrive in October, and I have not found a pattern I absolutely love to make for him yet. I think this might be in the running!
