Crochet Flower Clutch
Using a size B crochet hook and DMC Senso microfiber cotton you can crochet these cute clutch that is adorned with flowers. This is a free crochet pattern from DMC Threads you will love having on you during the warm summer months.
Materials:
- DMC Senso Microfiber Cotton
- (Art. 720), size 3, (150 yards/ ball):
- Color A: #1106 - 2 balls
- Color B: #1104 - 1 ball
- Color C: #1105 - 2 balls
- Color D: #1102 - 1 ball
- Crochet hook: 2.25 mm, US B-1
- Scissors
- Wooden button, size 1 1/8” (28 mm)
- Tapestry needle
- Sewing needle & sewing thread to match Senso yarn
- Small amount of polyester fiberfill
- 12” x 19” piece of pink satin to match yarn (Optional)
- 12” x 19” piece of medium weight fusible interfacing for stiffening purse
- Gauge: 11 pat st = 2”; 9 rows = 2”

Pattern Stitch:
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in ea st across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * across.
Row 1: Rep Row 2.
Steps:
Purse:
Row 1: With Color A, ch 83, sc in 2nd ch from hook, *dc in next ch, sc in next ch, rep from * across, turn. 82 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, *dc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * across. 82 sts.
Rep Rows 1-3 of Pat St using the following color sequence until 57 rows completed: 1 row Color B, 2 rows Color C, 1 row Color D, 2 rows Color A.
Embellishments:
For all embellishments, leave an 8” length of yarn for sewing when fastening off.
Flowers:
Note: Join ea Rnd with sl st in 1st st, do not turn.
Small Flower:
Make 1 with Color B, 1 with Color C.
Ch 6, sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, [sc in ring, ch 4] 6 times.
Rnd 2: Sl st to 1st ch 4 sp, ch 1, [sc, 5 dc, sc] in ea ch 4 sp around.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, working behind previous Rnds, sc in ch 4 sp from Rnd 1, *ch 5, sc in next ch 4 sp, rep from * around.
Rnd 4: Sl st to 1st ch 5 sp, ch 1, [sc, 7 dc, sc] in ea ch 5 sp around.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, working behind previous Rnds, sc in ch 4 sp from Rnd 1, *ch 6, sc in next ch 4 sp, rep from * around.
Rnd 6: Sl st to 1st ch 6 sp, ch 2, [hdc, 9 tc, hdc] in ea ch 6 sp around. Fasten off.
Medium Flower: Make 1.
Rnds 1-6: With Color B, rep Rnds 1-6 of Small Flower.
Fasten off.
Rnd 7: Join Color C with sl st in last st of Rnd 6, ch 1, working behind previous Rnds, sc in ch 4 sp from Rnd 1, *ch 7, sc in next ch 4 sp, rep from * around.
Rnd 8: Sl st to 1st ch 7 sp, ch 2, [hdc, 11 tc, hdc] in ea ch-7 sp around. Fasten off.
Large Flower: Make 1.
With Color B, ch 8, sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, [sc in ring, ch 5] 7 times.
Rnd 2: Rep Rnd 4 of Small Flower.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, working behind previous Rnds, sc in ch 5 sp from Rnd 1, *ch 6, sc in next ch 5 sp, rep from * around.
Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 6 of Small Flower.
Rnds 5-6: Rep Rnds 7-8 of Medium Flower. Fasten off
Color B.
Rnd 7: Join Color C with sl st in last st of Rnd 6, ch 1, working behind previous Rnds, sc in ch 5 sp from Rnd 1, *ch 8, sc in next ch 5 sp, rep from * around.
Rnd 8: Sl st to 1st ch 8 sp, ch 2, [dc, 11 trc, dc] in ea ch 8 sp around.
Rnd 9: Ch 1, working behind previous Rnds, sc in ch 5 sp from Rnd 1, *ch 10, sc in next ch 5 sp, rep from * around.
Rnd 10: Sl st to 1st ch 10 sp, ch 2, [dc, 13 trc, dc] in ea ch 10 sp around. Fasten off.
Flower Centers:
Note: Join ea Rnd with sl st in 1st st, do not turn. Center A:
Make 2.
Rnd 1: With Color D, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around. 9 sc. Rnds 3-4: Ch 1, sc in ea st around. Stuff lightly with fiberfill.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, dec 4 times, sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Rnd 6: Join Color C with sl st in any st, ch 3, 3 dc in ea st around, join with sl st in top of ch 3.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 1, 2 sc in next st, ch 1, sc in next st, rep from * around, join with sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
Sew one Center A to Small Flower made with Color B.
Sew the other Center A to Medium Flower.
Center B: Make 1.
Rnds 1-5: With Color A, rep Rnds 1-5 of Center A. Fasten off. Sew Center B to Small Flower made with Color B.
Center C: Make 1.
Rnd 1: With Color B, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in ea st around. 12 sc.
Rnds 3-4: Work even in sc. Stuff lightly.
Rnd 5: Dec around. 6 sc. Sew Center C to Large Flower.
Ruffle: Make 1.
Row 1: With Color B, ch 65, trc in 5th ch from hook, *2 trc in next st, trc in next st, rep from * across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *ch 1, sc in next st, rep from * across. Fasten off.
Leaves: Make 10.
Rnd 1: With Color A, ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, trc in next 4 ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working on opposite side of starting ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, trc in next 4 ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, 2 sc in last ch, join with sl st in 1st st. Fasten off.
Buds:
Note: Join each Rnd with sl st in 1st st, ch 1, do not turn.
Make 1 with Color B, 3 with Color C, and 3 with Color D.
Rnds 1-2: Rep Rnds 1-2 of Flower Center C. 12 sc.
Rnds 3-7: Work even in sc. Stuff lightly.
Rnd 8: Dec around. 6 sc. Fasten off.
Bud Caps: Make 7.
Rnd 1: With Color A, ch 4, 8 dc in 4th ch from hook, join with sl st in top of beg ch. 9 sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st, rep from *
around, join with sl st in top of beg ch. 13 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in ea st around, join with sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off. Stuff Bud Cap very lightly. Insert Bud into
Bud Cap. Sew together at about
Rnd 6 of Bud.
Finishing: Fold purse as indicated by diagram. Flap should have 19-20 sts along edge. Using tapestry needle and matching yarn, sew side seams closed.
Trim:
With Front facing you and working around Purse opening, join Color A with sl st in corner where Flap meets Purse body (indicated by an “X” on diagram), ch 1 sc in ea st and row across Front of Purse and around Flap, working 3 sc in front corners of Flap, join with sl st in 1st st. Ch 1, turn, sc in ea st to Flap corner. Work 3 sc in Flap corner, sc in next 26 sts. To work button loop, ch 8, skip 5 sts on Flap, sl st in next st, turn, 12 sc in ch 8 sp, sl st in next sc on Flap, turn, sl st in 12 sc just made. Continuing with Trim, sc in ea remaining st to next corner, 3 sc in corner, sc in ea sc down side of Flap to Front, sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Button:
Note: Join each Rnd with sl st in 1st st, do not turn. Make 1.
Rnd 1: With Color C, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 6 sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in ea st around. 12 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around. 18 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, rep from * around. 24 sts.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in ea st around.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *dec in next 2 sts, sc in next st, rep from * around. 18 sts. Insert button into opening.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, dec around. 9 sts. Fasten off, leaving a 6” length of yarn for sewing. Using tapestry needle, catch remaining sts and pull opening closed. Sew Button to
Purse
Front so that Flap folds down and Button Loop closes over
Button.
Attach Embellishments:
Using picture as a guide, sew Ruffle to lower right of Purse
Front. Sew 3 Leaves to lower left of Purse Front and then sew 4 Buds to Leaves. Sew remaining embellishments to
Flap.
Wrist Strap:
Row 1: Join Color A with sl st in 1st st on Flap at the “X” on diagram, ch 1, sc in 5 sts. Rows 2-51: Sc in ea st across.
Fasten off, leaving a 6” length of yarn for sewing. Sew Row
51 to Row 1 on inside of Flap.
Lining:
Press under a 1/2” hem all around and sew down. Fold fabric into same shape as purse. (Optional) Trim fusible interfacinng so it is about 1/8” smaller all around than fabric. Fuse to lining following manufacturer’s instructions. Insert lining into purse. Using sewing thread and needle, sew perimeter of lining to stitches at Purse opening.
