I am also confused by this pattern. If I am reading this correctly, row 1 is a row of "V" stitches, and row 2 is single crochet every stitch across?

Hi there! Our FaveCrafts Community Facebook Group may be able to help! You can also try our AllFreeCrochet community. Everyone is very active and should be able to troubleshoot this pattern! That said, what you explained sounds right: alternating rows of single crochet and v stitch. I hope that helps!

This pattern is very confusing. I've started over twice.

Hi there, which part are you having trouble with? I'd be happy to help. Thanks! - Julia from FaveCrafts

Hi just wondering if this pattern is using US or UK crochet terms?

Hi there, There is no difference between US and UK crochet terms when it comes to the actual pattern. As you can see for the gauge, materials and size, both US and UK terms are provided. Thanks! - Julia from FaveCrafts

There is a typo in the scarf directions. Row 1 should read as: 1st row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Miss first 2 sc. *(1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc) in next sc. Miss next 2 sc. Rep from * to last 3 sc. (1 dc. Ch 1. 1 dc) in next sc. Miss next sc. 1 dc in last sc. Turn.

Hi there - This pattern has now been updated. Thanks for your help! - Julia from FaveCrafts

The scarf pattern is definitely not working for me. I've tried it for over an hour now and have decided it needs to be revised. I started with a foundation single crochet row. Completed 1st row and still had the correct amount of stitches. The second row is basically a single crochet in every other stitch which leaves 13 stitches. The scarf gets narrower. Sure hope a revision gets made as it's a nice looking scarf. Guess I'll have to go to plan B for that Christmas gift. Not a happy camper.

I just want to thank you for the free patterns. I make hats and mitts for premies in the hospital. When they have enough, I make sweaters, and blankets and sometimes booties for them because not all parents have anything for their babies. This way I can give back to the hospital because they took such good care of my daughter when she was born 9 weeks premature.

Thank you for the pattern. I will share with my friend. Helen Lipsey

I'm having trouble with the scarf, maybe I'm doing the foundation wrong or the beginning of Row 1. I did what it said at the end of row,but it's not coming out straight.I've lost count on taking it apart. please can you help me,and clarify what needs to be done. tiger3101936

I am a beginner crocheter and am trying to make the above hat. I have not worked with slip stitch and chain for new rows in rounds before, and from row 2 or 3, come up with extra stitches, 2-3 per row. Pattern calls for sl st to first sc. Do I count the slip stitch and chain as sc listed in each row? Any other thoughts on what I am doing wrong? (I want to make the hat to match the scarf I already completed.) Thanks.

Trying to make for a 8 year old girl.....can i make the hat in worsted weight yarn??? thx

Inc 6 sts evenly, as before, on next and every following alt rnd to 54 sc. I TAKE THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO MEAN: 9th rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 6 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 48 sc. 10th rnd: Repeat Rnd 8. 11th rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 7 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. 54 sc. 12th rnd: Repeat Rnd 8. 13th rnd: Ch 1. *1 sc in each of next 12 sc. 2 sc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 13 sc. 2 sc in next sc. Rep from * around. 58 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Place marker at end of last rnd. 14th rnd: Repeat Rnd 8. Rep last rnd until work from marked rnd measures 10 ins [25.5 cm]. Fasten off.

Could someone clarify the instructions on the hat after row8 not sure what to do. It says Inc 6 stitches evenly as before on next and every following alt round to 54 sc. I don't understand . Could someone make this a little clearer. Thanks

you are to increase your stiches evenly (adding six stiches evenly across, using markers to show each increased stitch)across the next round and every following alternate round until there are 54 sts. the next round, ch 1 in the next 12 sc, then 2 sc in the next sc,then sc in each of the next 13 sts, 2sc in the next sc,then repeat from * all around til' there are 58 sc. Join with a slip sts to the 1st sc, place a marker at the end of the last round. I have a question on the hat in this pattern. Not sure what to do after row 8. Could someone clarify the instructions following row 8. Thanks

cool

For those mystified by the directions for the scarf, the end of the first row should read "Miss next sc. 1 DC in last sc. Turn." The odd thing is that this same pattern shown in brown as a men's set on this site has the same error. I was able to find the correct instructions on Bernat's web site, but only for the men's pattern and then only if you download the pdf version. On Bernat's site the woman's set is missing the information both in the initial view and in the pdf download. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I came to the comments looking for clarification on the missing stitch!

I agree with the first commenter on the scarf. I also tried doing the scarf. It seems to have a typo. I think it means to put 1 single crochet or 1 double crochet in the last sc of that row. I still can't figure it out either. Could you please look intol this. i know it's a free pattern but theres no point in putting it online if it isn't going to work due to a typo.

Really wanted to make the scarve, but the last stitch of Row 1 wasn't clear. Miss Next sc (and do 1 WHAT in last sc)? Can someone help with this?

gotta question?? Does the word "miss" mean the same as "skip"???? jbwh

This is a really easy and beautiful pattern. I made both the hat and the scarf for my niece. The scarf is really lacy but it is warm. The hat is very thick and fits well.
