Crazy Monster Eyes Slippers

Premier Dream yarn is used to make these silly monster eye slippers from Premier Yarns. Your kids will love you so much if you crochet them these slippers. Get in touch with your childhood and be silly with a free crochet pattern like this one. Crochet monster slippers are great for Halloween, as funny Christmas gifts, and for any time of year where you need to keep those feet warm. Make them in different colors for every member of the family!

Materials:

Premier Dream:
24-216 Baby Fern (CA) – 1 ball
24-201 White (CB) – 1 ounce
24-235 Black (CC) – few yards
24-228 Eggplant (CD) – few yards
Crochet Hook: US H-8 (5mm)
Yarn needle
Polyester fiberfill
Dimensional fabric paint

Gauge=16 dc and 9 rnds = 4". Use any size hook necessary to obtain the specified gauge.

Size: Instructions are for toddler size; instructions for youth, adult woman and adult man sizes are in parentheses unless otherwise indicated.

Finished Measurements (slippers fit snuggly)

Foot Circumference: 6¼ (7½, 8¾, 10)"
Foot Length: 5 (7, 9, 11)"

Special Stitch

Sc2tog (single crochet 2 sts together): Draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and pull through all 3 lps on hook (1 st dec).

Project Notes

Ch 2 at beg of dc rows does not count as a st.
There are two sizes of Eyeballs; one for Toddler/Youth and one for Woman/Man.

Instructions:

Slipper Foot:

Beg at center of toe with CA, ch 4; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), 9 dc in ring; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 10 dc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 15 dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 20 dc.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 25 dc.

Sizes Youth (Woman, Man) only

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 30 dc.

Sizes Woman (Man) only

Rnd 6: Ch 3, dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 35 dc.

Size Man only

Rnd 7: Ch 3, dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in each of next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 40 dc.

All sizes

Next Rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3.
Repeat this rnd 0 (2, 5, 7) more times.
Next Row (RS): Ch 2, dc in each dc around; turn (do not join).
Repeat this row 5 (7, 8, 9) more times; fasten off at end of last row.
With WS facing, fold last row in half to form back of Slipper Foot. Join CA with a sl st in st at fold, and working through both thicknesses, sl st in each st to top of Slipper Foot, ch 1, sc evenly around foot opening; join with a sl st in first sc, ch 10; join with a sl st in first sc to form a loop; fasten off. Weave in ends.

Eyeball:

With CB, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 5 sc in second ch from hook; do not join, place a contrasting piece of yarn through last st and continue working in rounds, moving yarn up with each completed rnd – 5 sc.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 10 sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around – 15 sc.
Rnd 4: * Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around – 20 sc.

Size Woman/Man only

Rnd 5: * Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around – 25 sc.
Rnd 6: * Sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around – 30 sc.

All sizes

Rnds 5-7 (7-11): Sc in each sc around.

Size Woman/Man only

Rnd 12: * Sc in each of next 4 sc, sc2tog; rep from * around – 25 sc.
Rnd 13: * Sc in each of next 3 sc, sc2tog; rep from * around – 20 sc.

All sizes

Rnd 8 (14): * Sc in each of next 2 sc, sc2tog; rep from * around – 15 sc. Stuff Eyeball firmly with polyester fiberfill.
Rnd 9 (15): * Sc in next sc, sc2tog; rep from * around – 10 sc. Stuff Eyeball again.
Rnd 10 (16): * Sc2tog; rep from * around; fasten off, leaving a 12" end – 5 sc. Thread yarn end through yarn needle and weave through remaining 5 sc; pull end tightly to close opening and knot securely. Bury end in Eyeball and trim end.

Pupil/Iris:

With CC, ch 4; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3, 9 dc in ring; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3; fasten off – 10 dc.
Rnd 2: With RS facing, join CD with a sl st in any dc, ch 1, sc in same st as joining, 2 sc in next dc, * sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in first sc – 15 sc; fasten off, leaving a 24" yarn end. Thread end through yarn needle and sew Pupil/Iris to Eyeball, centered over Rnds 1-3.

Eyelid:

With CA, ch 4; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3, 11 dc in ring; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 12 dc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 18 dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, * dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc; rep from * around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3 – 24 dc.

Size Woman/Man only

Rnd 4: Rep Rnd 3 – 32 dc.

All sizes

Rnd 4 (5): Ch 3, dc in each dc around; join with a sl st in third ch of beg ch-3; fasten off, leaving a 24" yarn end.
Thread end through yarn needle. Place Eyelid over Eyeball, slightly covering Pupil/Iris and sew in place.

Finishing

Sew one completed Eyeball unit to top of each Slipper Foot.
To prevent slipping on bare floors when slippers are worn, apply dots of dimensional fabric paint to bottom of each Slipper Foot; let dry.

These are down right adorable. I want to make a pair for each of my grand kids. If I change the colors I can make them all happy. Maybe add another eye and make it in red, it's Elmo! Blue it becomes Cookie Monster and so on. And grandma becomes their hero!

Wow, I love these I have done all things silly monster for my 2 year old and these are defiantly on my to make list for him now. He is going to love them with the huge eyes and overall cuteness factor. it looks like I better check my gauge before I make these, thanks for that tip.

I took some liberties and changed this pattern a little start with a magic ring instead of chain loop-easier to close the toe and eye parts on the rows that create the opening of the shoe chain makes the opening way too tight I chain like a normal start for any double crocheted item and it works fine to finish the heel for the last row tie off but leave a long tail of yarn to close up the heel Do a single crochet join down the back of the slipper on the inside flip the heel over so that you're working on the outside Once you get to the bottom instead of leaving it pointy draw up the point on the inside about halfway up the back of the slipper and tack into place Finish by sewing the triangle that is formed to the back of the slipper then flip…Read More the shoe over and sew the seam closed at the bottom of the heel I don't do the single crochet run around the top of the opening nor do I form a loop at the heel These don't really need it and if you did your rows neatly and evenly you won't need them either You might want to put some fun fur trim around the top edge of the shoe though and that would be the easiest way to achieve that I used eyelash yarn to make fuzzy eyelashes on my monsters SUPER CUTE I've made five pair in various sizes The smallest size listed will fit a ir year old child a little big for a toddler Next size up would be youth small women's the next size fits between a and women's and the largest size would fit up to a man's size or

I too find the pattern to be missing something--possibly decrease. Even the toddler size turns out enormous. And the instructions say they will fit snug,. Please reprint corrections. Thanks

Did you use a 5 mm hook? Sounds like maybe you used an 8 mm instead of a size 8. Check your gauge before you start to make sure you get 9 rounds of 16 double crochet to measure 4".

Also make sure you're using the yarn suggested here. Sometimes if you use a different yarn, your gauge will be different. I'd also suggest checking your gauge and making sure your hook size and yarn weight is as mentioned in the materials list. Hope that helps!

I made these for my brother's girlfriend's daughter..she is 5. I made them in purple with pink eyes. Her Mom told me that these are the only "shoes" this child keeps track of! She comes home and puts her "purple eyes" on. I am so happy that she liked them and now I am "Aunty" to this child as well!

I'm just a novice at crocheting but ended up managing them OK I ended up making 3 because the first one was a bit wonky. If you have a problem keep trying they work out fine in the end

dont know what i am doing wrong. it seems like part of the pattern is missing. mine looks like a dolls bonnet?????? or if i turn it upside down it looks like the heel of a slipper but with no foot??? anyone got any ideas? i really want to make these

I have made slippers without the eyes similar to these for years However my pattern is a bit different I crochet in single stitches with double thread until the actual foot starts getting wider Usually about inches Then I start to open the slipper up by ending the previous row turning the slipper chain and then crochet across the body of the slipper until I am back to where I stopped the previous row chain and go back to the body of the slipper When the body of the slipper is as long as I need it I then create a heel by dividing the amount of the last row of stitches I have done by I then crochet down the body of the slipper by that amount turn chain and crochet back to the top of the slipper I create of these rows thereby creating a heel crochet it closed…Read More a slipper made You can then create a ruffle on the top of slipper for a gal or if you want you can increase stitches in the body of the slipper to turn it into a bootie that will come up the ankle a bit for extra warmth These are fun fast booties to make and very warm and can be made completely without having to stop for any reason
