Barbie's Little Black Dress

Give your Barbie a brand new wardrobe with this adorable Little Black Dress crochet pattern.  The great thing about this design is that you could really use it to make everything from a bathing suit top to a full dress, just by learning when to stop crocheting...so really you're getting 8 patterns in 1!  Now that's one bargain that Barbie would be proud of!  Have enough LBD's in the Barbie wardrobe?  Create a beautiful dress in any color you'd like.  This is a great stashbuster project for your yarn collection, and these one-of-a-kind dresses make wonderful gifts for the little girl in your life.

Materials:

• Crochet Cotton Thread (I used Circulo Clea, but you can use any brand you prefer)
• 1.7mm crochet hook
• 1-2 - 1/4" snaps, or your choice of fastener
• Stitch marker

Instructions:
This pattern is worked from the top down.  Starting after row 7, you can stop after any row.  I have suggested 4 stopping points for different top lengths and 4 stopping points for dress lengths.  It uses one-two snap fasteners in the back. 

Top A
 

1. ch 54, pull tight, turn. 
    
2. in back loops: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 11 ch, hdc, dc, tr 3, dc, hdc, sc 18, hdc, dc, tr 3, dc , hdc, sc 9, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
    
3. sc 9, ch 4, skip 7 sts, sc 18, ch 4, skip 7 sts, sc 12, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
    
4. sc 4, (dc 2 sts together) x 2, tr 12, (dc 2 sts together) x 2, sc 2, (dc 2 sts together) x 2, tr 12, (dc 2 sts together) x 2, sc, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
    
5. sc 39, ch 1, pull tight, turn. repeat.
    
6. sc 6, 2tog, sc 2, 2tog, sc 12, 2tog, sc 2, 2tog, sc 9, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
    
7. sc 6, 2tog, sc 6, 2tog, sc 6, 2tog, sc 6, 2tog, sc 3, ch 1, pull tight, turn.  Can stop after row 7 for the first top.

Top B
 

8. sc 31, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
    
9. sc 6, 2tog, sc 4, 2tog, sc 6, 2tog, sc 4, 2tog, sc 3, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
    
10. sc 27, ch 1, pull tight, turn.  Repeat 2x.  Can stop here for the second top.

11. row 13:  sc 6, scinc, sc 4, scinc, sc 6, scinc, sc 4, scinc, sc 3, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
     
12. row 14-16:  sc 31, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
     
13. row 17:  sc 6, scinc, sc 6, scinc, sc 6, scinc, sc 6, scinc, sc 3, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
     
14. row 18-20:  sc 35, ch 1, pull tight, turn.
     
15. rnd 21:  with right side out, overlap the 2 sides so that right side is on top of of the left side of the top by 3 sts. skipping the first 2 sts of row, scinc into 4th st, scinc x 28, scinc together last 3 sts with first 3 sts skipped, sl st in first st of rnd.  Can stop after rnd 21 for fourth top.

From here, you will want to mark the first stitch of the rnd to keep track where the beginning of the rnd is.
 

16. rnd 22:  ch 3, (tr 4, dc 4) x 7, tr 4, dc 3, sl st join to 3rd ch. ch 1, pull tight.
     
17. rnd 23:  (sc, ch 3, sc, ch 5, skip 2 st) x 16.
     
18. rnd 24:  (sc in first st of ch 3, ch 3, skip next st, sc in last st of ch 3, ch 5, skip ch 5 section) x 16.
     
19. rnd 25+:  repeat rnd 24 until you reach desired length, f/o.
     
20. Weave in ends and sew on snaps or your choice of fasteners.
