I love the look of this bolero. I am hoping to have a niece to make this for soon. My sister is expecting, and she is hopefully going to find out what she is having in two weeks. I cant wait! In the meantime, I am on the hunt for cute patterns such as this one.

I am attempting to make this bolero. I am at the part where the pattern says to "miss next 4 (4-4-6-6) sts of body. Join yarn with sl st to next st. Ch 2. Hdc2tog over same hdc as last sl st and next hdc." What does this mean "miss next 4 stitches??????? Is anyone able to explain this step to me. I am pretty accomplished but this is a new type of instruction.

Hi grandmare--Thanks for your comment. This means you're going to skip the next 4 stitches and continue with the pattern in the 5th stitch of the previous row. The (4,4,6,6) after miss next 4 refers to the size...so, for example, if you're making the largest size, you would skip the next 6 stitches rather than 4. Hope that helps! --FaveCrafts Editor

Your pattern is so cute! It's the perfect thing to dress up or down and can be worn for any occasion.

This is a great pattern, so much more useful than a poncho because it can be worn inside as well as outside and not prevent the child from easily moving her arms.

I think this would be the better of the two pieces. The bolero style leaves more room for freedom of movement. The caplet restricts the arms and would bunch up at the neckline.

When choosing between this bolero and a poncho, I would choose this design mostly because I have seen more little girls wear a bolero than a poncho.

I haven't made this yet, but think it would add a touch of old-fashioned elegance to a little girl's wardrobe. I can picture a little one wearing this when going to tea with her mom and grandmother. How special!

I love this one. It is so pretty, especially since it is my favorite color! The other one looks too heavy for a little girl. May look better on an adult.

This is my favorite one. The other is not very attractive. Looks like an afghan wrapped around the kid.

I like the bolero style better. The capelet is very nice but I can't see a little girl being able to move too freely in it.

I like them both, but a couple of my great-nieces would sure look cute in this bolero! Of course, the third one would look just as cute in the capelet, but it's two votes to one. :)

I'm new to crocheting garments (I usually crochet afghans or shawls). What does this part of the above pattern mean: "Work 0 (0-1-0-0) row even"? Thanks for any help you can provide

The numbers in ( ) refer to the sizing reference for small, med, large, or xl sizes you work the number of stitches/rows based on the size garment you are making.

Sleeves: Start: 23 ch Row 1-3: 21 sts---2 ch were not used, so there are 2 less sts Row 4: 23 sts---2 sts added Row 5: 23 sts Row 6: 25 sts---2 more sts added Row 7: 25 sts Row 8: 27 sts---2 more sts added By the time you have reached Row 13, you will have added 14 sts 23 + 14 = 37 sts Work on those stitches until the piece is 6-1/2 inches from beginning. You have to follow the pattern exactly. Judyaten, did U make a swatch? If your gauge is not exact, get the horizontal gauge right and work less or more rows. You may have to fudge the inc's a bit.

Try logging into LionBrandYarn.com. They have a Childs Bolero pattern which is much easier to understand and it works out the same as this one. Also if there is something which you don't understand, they have qualified instructors which will help you with any problems. I made an Adult Bolero from their patterns which is just about the same as this one and it turned out perfect. I had to email them for help and they were wonderful. Try it...you will like it.

I made this for my granddaughter and had a horrible time with the instructions. I could not figure out the picot edging so I used a similar one I found online. If you sign onto Patons yarn website you can free patterns and this bolero sweater pattern is there with the pattern layout. Good luck. I made the size 6 one and it is really adorable

Instructions were really bad. e.g. the sleeves for size 6: if you follow these instructions you do not end with 37 stitches and after adding the 7th row the measurements already equal 7". Really disgusted with this pattern and was hoping to have it completed for Easter

Can you show me how to put this sweater together? Can you send me a diagram of the pieces and how the pieces get connected.

Hi, I put together this sweater as follows Crochet all 3 pieces as printer. Crochet a length of trim to fit each sleeve and attach to sleeve edge. Stitch underarm seam of sleeve. Pin underarm sleeve seam to center of underarm opening on body of sweater. Stitch the sleeves into place from the armpit to neck. THIS IS A RAGLAN SLEEVE SWEATER. THE EDGE OF THE SLEEVE IS PART OF THE NECK OPENING. After stitching sleeves into place, crochet a length of trim as stated in the directions and stitch in place around the sweater. Any questions, contact me at lorrievan@hotmail.com
