How to Make a Wreath from Fabric Strips

Instructions:

  1. Prepare your fabric strips by tearing or cutting strips in 5" by 1" pieces. You will need many of them. To make some of them different in texture, you may try cutting some with pinking shears.

  2. Begin tying strips to wire form.  A full knot isn't necessary.

  3. Keep tying and tying and tying. The example heart wreath form had three wires, so all three wires were covered with fabric strips.

  4. Create a loop of wire or ribbon for the back of the wreath for a hanger. That's all there is to it!

I'll look for the wire hanger shape online, but if I can' t find one or they're too expensive, I think I'll experiment with making my own from some old clothes hangers. I have some old wire ones that bend pretty easily and might make the shape I need. I might even leave the hook on top to hang it up with.

@jobers77 what a great idea! Let us know how it turns out. -Kaylee, Editor of FaveCrafts

I was thinking the same thing. I'll make my own shape with a wire coat hanger. I don't think I'll make heart now, maybe a fall shape like an apple or pumpkin. I have lots of fabric in fall colors I could use, too. I like that this is not expensive. Once I was going to make a faux flower grapevine wreath, and it was going to cost me $55 even with everything on sale!

I found them at hobby lobby for $3.00 the wire heart and circle and I am sure they are not much more at walmart or Micheal's. I have so much scraps left over that this is something cute to make. Great idea though to leave the hook on to hang it. I was thinking about making my own but I can never get the shape right. Did you ladies make on yet?

I have done this with wire hangars just as you describe and the wreaths turned out very well. I especially liked this method as it allowed me to reuse wire hangars that I would have discarded. Win-win!

How cute! This wreath is the perfect combination of rustic and whimsical charm. It would look great hanging on my front door.
