Decorative Fall Towel
Create yourself some lovely decorative towels for the fall season. These would make for great gifts from the heart too. Bias tape and felt create this colorful towel. These make for great Thanksgiving crafts.
Materials:
- 2 Kitchen Towels (can be the same or coordinating)
- 1 Package coordinating extra wide dbl. fold bias tape
- 9” Square Thick Felt
- 9” Square Quilted Materials
- 1 Decorative Button
Instructions:
-
To make the top of the towel and cut a 9" square.
-
Layer your squares with the quilted one first, quilted side on bottom, then felt.
-
Cut your towel square which should be facing up.
-
Pin together and baste edges then cut corners to round.
-
Take your bias tape and unfold it. Pin one side of bias tape around the edge of the back side (quilted material) of square facing in the square, not out, leaving an extra 5" on the end for your loop.
-
Sew on the first foldline in from the pinned edge, excluding the extra 5". Cut strings.
-
Turn bias tape to front, making sure to leave folded to the first fold on bias tape, pin and sew around the edge of the bias tape, including 5" at end. Turn the 5" into a loop and sew to back corner of square.
-
Take your second towel, fold in half and gather in middle.
-
Take your square top facing front toward you and hoop toward the side, not the top.
-
Take the gathered towel and pin corner to corner on square and adjust the towel to gather equally from one side to the other.
-
Sew towel to square following your gather line. Then turn and sew again for extra durability.
- Cut threads and pull out gather line if it is showing. Sew button on top corner.

@Member 20731, I'm sorry to hear of your trouble. I have two options for you: 1. You can contact the pattern designer directly for help. The designer is specified in the byline. 2. I might also suggest that you try posting your question to our sites Facebook page. It is monitored by the editor and is a great resource for helpful tips and suggestions from our Facebook friends; perhaps they can offer some guidance! your directions are a little too vague for me to understand. Perhaps if you could include more close up pictures of the craft so that it could be clearly seen. Or step by step pictures. That would be very helpful.
