Using cotton thread you can make this lovely coaster which can also be used as a doily. Multi purpose crochet designs are fabulous. This is an easy crochet pattern from Mimi Alelis.


Finished Measurement: approx. 4 1/2 inches in diameter using 1.75mm hook; 5 1/4 inches using 2mm hook

Materials:

  • Cannon size 8 cotton thread with metallic, or Anchor size 10 cotton thread with metallic
  • Steel crochet hook, size 1.75 mm for coaster, 2mm for doily
  • Yarn needle for weaving ends

Abbreviations
ch = chain, ss = slip stitch, sc = single
crochet, dc = double crochet, hdc = half double crochet, st = stitch rnd = round

Instructions:

  1. Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
     
  2. Join with ss on the 1st sc.
     
  3. Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc). Join.
     
  4. Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc on next 2 sc, 2 sc on next sc) repeat around. Join. (16 sc)
     
  5. Rnd 4: Ch 1, (sc on next sc, 2 sc on next sc) repeat around. Join. (24 sc)
     
  6. Rnd 5: Ch 1, (sc on next 2 sc, 2 sc on next sc) repeat around. Join. (32 sc)
     
  7. Rnd 6: (Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 1 ) - counts as hdc, [ch 1, skip 1 sc, (dc, ch1, dc) in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, hdc on next sc] repeat around, ending with a ss on beginning hdc.
     
  8. Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 1, [ch 2, dc on next dc, (dc, ch1, dc) in next ch 1 sp, dc on next dc, ch 2, hdc on hdc] repeat around, ending with a ss on beginning hdc.
     
  9. Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 1, [ch 2, dc on next 2 dc, (dc, ch1, dc) in next ch 1 sp, dc on next 2 dc, ch 2, hdc on hdc] repeat around, ending with a ss on beginning hdc.
     
  10. Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 1, [ch 2, dc on next 3 dc, (dc, ch1, dc) in next ch 1 sp, dc on next 3 dc, ch 2, hdc on hdc] repeat around, ending with a ss on beginning hdc.
     
  11. Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in same sp, ch 1, [ch 2, dc on next 4 dc, (dc, ch1, dc) in next ch 1 sp, dc on next 4 dc, ch 2, hdc on hdc] repeat around, ending with a ss on beginning hdc.
     
  12. Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc in same sp, [sc in next ch 2 sp, sc in next dc, hdc on next dc, dc on next 3 dc, (dc, ch1, dc) in ch 1 sp, dc on next 3 dc, hdc on next dc, sc on next dc, sc on next ch 2 sp, sc on hdc] repeat around, ending with a ss on beginning sc.
     
  13. Rnd 12: Ch 1, sc in same sp, [sc in next 2 sc, hdc on next hdc, dc on next 4 dc, 3 dc in ch 1 sp, dc on next 4 dc, hdc on hdc, sc on next 3 sc] repeat around, ending with a ss on beginning sc.
     
  14. Rnd 13: Slip stitch on each st around.
     
  15. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

I appreciate it when a pattern is simple enough that it is automatically included above on this same page. Sometimes I just want a quick project to work on with easy access, and not the ones where I am redirected to another page with all kinds of pop-up ads that impede my ability to read the lousy pattern! I would make dozens of these and sew them together to use as a table runner or a centerpiece.
