Pansy Apron with Bib

Your kitchen has everything except this pansy apron with bib. Make one using this easy crochet pattern from Bernat Yarns. You can use any color yarn but the purple and beige look really nice together.

Materials:

  • Bernat® Handicrafter Cotton (50 g/ 1.75 oz)
  • Main Color (MC) (Beige): 2 balls
  • Contrast A (Ecru): 10 balls
  • Contrast B (Purple): 3 balls
  • Contrast C (Light Purple): 2 balls
  • Size 5 mm (U.S. H or 8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge. Small quantity of (yellow).

GAUGE
16 sts and 15 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in pat.

Pattern:
Note: Wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each area of color in the design. Start new colors at appropriate points. To change color, draw new color through last 2 loops of previous color as indicated.
Apron
With A, ch 122.
Foundation row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of ch. Ch 1. Turn.
1st row: 1 sc in first sc. *1 sc in next ch 1 sp. Ch 1. Miss next sc. Rep from * to last 2 sts. 1 sc in next ch 1 sp. 1 sc in last sc. Ch 1. Turn.
2nd row: 1 sc in first sc. *Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next ch 1 sp. Rep from * to last 2 sts. Ch 1. Miss next sc. 1 sc in last sc. Ch 1. Turn.
Rep last 2 rows until work measures 16 ins [40.5 cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Fasten off.
***Make 2 pleats and pin them at top of Apron 1 inch [2.5 cm] deep, beg at 23rd st from each side.
With RS of work facing, join B with sl st to top right corner of Apron.
Gathering row: With B, ch 1. (Draw up a loop in next 2 sts. Yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook - sc2tog made) 11 times. Working through all thicknesses of pleat, proceed as follows: *1 sc in next st. Miss next st. Rep from * to end of first pleat section. (Sc2tog over next 2 sts) 10 times.
Working through all thicknesses of next pleat section, proceed as follows:
*1 sc in next st. Miss next st. Rep from * to end of next pleat section. (Sc2tog over next 2 sts) 11 times. Fasten off.
Tie: With RS of Apron facing, proceed as follows:
1st row: With A, ch 42. 1 sc in first st of Gathering row on Apron. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Ch 43. Turn.
2nd row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 41 ch. 1 sc in each sc across. 1 sc in each of next 42 ch. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Rep last row once more. Fasten off.
With RS of work facing, join B with sl st to any corner of tie.
Work 1 sc in each st around Tie and outer edge of Apron working 3 sc in each outside corner. Join with sl st to first st.
Next rnd: Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 sc in each sc around skipping 1 sc in each inside corner. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off. ***
Bib: With MC, ch 34.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *(Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 sc in next ch) 4 times. Ch 1. Miss next ch.** 1 sc in next ch. With A, 1 sc in next ch. (Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 sc in next ch) 4 times. Ch 1. Miss next ch. 1 sc in next ch. With MC, 1 sc in next ch.

With RS of work facing, join B with sl st to lower right corner of Bib.
Work 1 sc in each sp around 3 sides of Bib. Do not turn.
Next row: Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 sc in each sc. Fasten off.

Pocket (make 1)

25th row: As 3rd row. Fasten off. With RS of work facing, join B with sl st to lower right corner of Pocket. Work 1 sc in each sp around Pocket. Join with sl st to first st.
Next rnd:Working from left to right, instead of from right to left as usual, work 1 sc in each sc around. Join with ss to first sc. Fasten off.

Ties: (Make 2) With A, ch 7.
1st row: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in each of next 4 ch. 5 dc. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 3. Miss first dc. 1 dc in each of next 4 dc.
Rep last row until Tie measures 18 ins [45.5 cm]. Fasten off.
Pansy Motifs: (Make 4)
With C, ch 4. Join with sl st to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 1. (2 sc in ring. Ch 2) 5 times. Join with sl st to first sc. Break C.
2nd rnd: Join B with sl st to any ch 2 sp. Ch 2. (2 hdc. Ch 3. 1 sl st in first ch – Picot made. 3 hdc) all in same ch 2 sp. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (3 hdc. Picot. 3 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. [Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. (1 hdc. 9 dc. 1 hdc) all in next ch 2 sp] twice. Miss next sc. 1 sc in next sc. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
With Yellow, embroider center of Pansy using bullion st as illustrated.
Sew Bib to Apron. Sew Ties and Pocket as illustrated. Stitch middle of Pocket at center to Apron. Sew Pansy Motifs in position as illustrated.

I love the look of this apron. Cotton yarn is very versatile, which is why it is one of my favorites to work with. There are also a ton of different color options, so if you really dislike the color scheme here, or it clashes with your kitchen decor, you have other colors to choose from.
