Pillar Stitch Afghan
Knit yourself a pillar stitch afghan. This is a free and easy knitting pattern from Bernat Yarns that you can keep for years. The yarn is nice and warm for you to lounge around in. The colors are great for Christmastime.
Materials:
- Bernat® Chunky (Solids: 400 g / 14 oz)
- 1 ball each of #90430 (Soft Burgundy) as MC, #90426 (Antique Rose) as A and #90425 (Soft Antique Rose) as B.
- Bernat® Chunky (Ombres: 300 g / 10.5 oz)
- 1 ball of #91535 (Neapolitan) as C.
- Sizes 5 mm (U.S. 8) and 6 mm (U.S. 10) circular knitting needles 36 ins [90 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 18 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needle in pat.

Instructions:
With MC and smaller circular needle, cast on 216 sts. Do not join. Working back
and forth across needle, knit 6 rows (garter st).
Change to larger needle and proceed as follows:
1st row: (WS). With MC, K1. Purl to last st. K1.
2nd row: K1. *yfwd. K2. Pass yfwd over 2 sts. Rep from * to last st. K1.
3rd and 4th rows: With A, as 1st and 2nd rows.
5th and 6th rows: With B, as 1st and 2nd rows.
7th and 8th rows: With C, as 1st and 2nd rows.
Rep 1st to 8th rows of pat 32 times more.
With MC, rep 1st row once.
Change to smaller needle and knit 6 rows.
Cast off.
Side edging: With RS of work facing, MC and smaller needle, pick up and knit
240 sts evenly along side edge. Knit 5 rows. Cast off.
Rep for other side.
