Cropped Jacket & Tube Top
You'll look stylish and crafty in this Cropped Jacket & Tube Top. The free knitting pattern is easy, so it's great even for beginning knitters.
Materials:
- Caron International's Glimmer (85% acrylic, 15% polyester; 1.75 oz/50 g, 49 yds/45 m): #0008 Apple, 8 (8, 9) balls for cropped jacket and tube top trim (MC)
- Caron International's Simply Soft (100% acrylic; 6 oz/172 g, 330 yds/304 m): #9727 Black, 1 skein (CC)
- Tapestry needle (tn)
- Crochet hook size US I/9 (5.5 mm) for trim
- One pair size US 8 (5 mm), or size to obtain gauge for Tube Top
- One pair size US 10 (6 mm), or size to obtain gauge for Jacket

Note: 1x1 rib at sides make piece very flexible; length will become shorter the more the piece is stretched horizontally.

NOTES
Tube top is worked in 2 pieces and seamed at sides.
Jacket is worked in one piece, cuff to cuff, beg at left Sleeve.
GAUGE
In Stockinette stitch, using smaller needles and CC, 18 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10 cm;
using larger needles and MC, 12 sts and 21 rows = 4"/10 cm
Instructions:
1x1 rib (multiple of 2 sts +1; 1-row repeat)
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1; repeat from * across.
Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts as they face you.
Repeat Row 2 for 1x1 rib.
Seed Stitch (multiple of 2 sts +1; 1-row repeat)
Row 1 (RS): K1, * p1, k1; repeat from * across.
Row 2: Knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts as they face you.
Repeat Row 2 for Seed st.
TUBE TOP
Using smaller needles and CC, CO 73 (83, 91) sts.
Establish Pattern: (RS) Work 13 (15, 17) sts in 1x1 rib; work 47 (53, 57) center sts in St st, work rem 13 (15, 17) sts in 1x1 rib. Work even as est until piece measures 17 1/2 (18, 18 1/2)" from beg, end with a WS row.
BO all sts loosely in patt.
FINISHING
Sew side seams.
With RS facing, using crochet hook and MC, join yarn with a slip st at side seam; ch 1, work 1 row sc evenly around upper edge, end join with a slip st to first st.
Fasten off.
Using tn, weave in all ends.
JACKET
Using larger needles and MC, CO 57 (61, 63) sts.
LEFT SLEEVE
(RS) Begin Seed st; work even for 8 rows, end with a WS row.
Change to St st; work even until piece measures 14 (14 1/2, 15)" from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Underarm: (RS) Inc 1 st each side this row, then EOR 3 times—65 (69, 71) sts.
CO 8 (9, 10) sts at beg of next 2 rows—81 (87, 91) sts.
LEFT BACK and FRONT
Establish Pattern: Work 5 sts in Seed st, place a marker (pm), work in St st across center 71 (77, 81) sts, pm; work rem 5 sts in Seed st. Work even as est until Back measures 6 (6 3/4, 7 1/2)" from CO sts at underarm, end with a WS row.
LEFT FRONT, BACK NECK and RIGHT FRONT
Dividing Row: (RS) Work 41 (44, 46) sts as est for Back; place rem 40 (43, 45) sts on holder for left Front.
Working on Back sts only, work even as est until piece measures 5 (5 1/2, 6)" from Dividing Row, end with a WS row.
Using Provisional CO method of choice, CO 40 (43, 45) sts.
Joining Row: (RS) Cont in patt est, work across Back sts to neck edge; pick up and knit 35 (38, 40) sts from Provisional CO, pm, work last 5 sts in Seed st—81 (87, 91).
RIGHT BACK and FRONT
Cont in patt est, keeping 5 sts at each side in Seed st as for left Back and Front, work even until Back measures 6 (6 3/4, 7 1/2)" from Joining Row, end with a WS row.
Shape Underarm: (RS) BO 8 (9, 10) sts at beg of next 2 rows—65 (69, 71) sts rem.
Dec 1 st each side EOR 4 times—57 (61, 63) sts rem.
RIGHT SLEEVE
Work even until piece measures same as left Sleeve from last dec row to beg of Seed St Edging [approx 12 1/2 (13, 13 1/2)", end with a WS row.
Change to Seed st; work even for 8 rows.
BO all sts loosely in patt.
FINISHING
Front and Neck Band
With RS facing, beg at lower right Front, remove WY (Provisional CO); place sts on needle, ready to work a RS row. Join yarn, work 40 (43, 45) sts in Seed st; pick up and knit 15 (17, 19) sts across Back neck; place 40 (43, 45) sts from left Front holder on needle, ready to work a RS row; beg p1 (k1, k1), work in Seed st to end—95 (103, 109) sts. Note: Last 5 sts cont in Seed st as est. Work even in Seed st for 7 rows, working Back neck sts in Seed st.
BO all sts loosely in patt.
Assembly
Using tn, seam Front and Back Trim at neck edge.
Fold Jacket with WS's facing, matching Lower Back and Lower Front edges.
Using tn, sew Sleeve and side seams; weave in all ends.

This sweet little shrug would be perfect to wear to a summer wedding or on a date. It looks so elegant paired with the knitted tube top. The yarn has a bit of sparkle to it too.
