Toe Socks
Knit a quirky pair of knee socks with toes, in stripes or plain. You adjust this socks knitting pattern from Patons for children, teenagers or adult ladies.

Size 2-4: 2 balls

- Knitting Needles: Set of four double pointed knitting needles sizes 2¾ mm (U.S. 2) or size needed to obtain tension.

Teen/Lady’s 9½ ins [24 cm]
Gauge: 32 sts and 44 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

LEFT SOCK
**WithMC, cast on 54 (64-76) sts loosely.
Divide sts into 18 (20-24) sts on first needle, 18 (24-28) sts on second needle and 18 (20-24) sts on third needle.
Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
1st rnd: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd for 3½ (4-4½) ins [9 (10- 11.5) cm].
Proceed in Stripe Pat (knit 6 rnds A and knit 6 rndsMC) for 24 (30-30) rnds.
Shape leg: Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, proceed as follows:
Next rnd: 1st needle: K1. Sl1K. K1. psso. Knit to end of needle. 2nd needle:Knit. 3rd needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1.
Work 18 (18-24) rnds even in Stripe Pat.
Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last 19 (19- 25) rnds 2 (3-3) timesmore. 48 (56-68) sts. 15 (16-20) sts on first needle, 18 (24-28) sts on second needle and 15 (16-20) sts on third needle.
Cont even in Stripe Pat until work after ribbing measures approx 9½(10½-12½) ins [24 (26.5-32) cm] ending with stripe of 6 rnds A.
Arrange Heel sts: Slip last 3 (2-3) sts from end of first needle onto beg of 2nd needle.
Slip first 3 (2-3) sts from beg of 3rd needle onto end of 2nd needle.
Rearrange 24 (28-34) sts fromsecond needle onto 2 needles and leave for instep. Slip sts from third needle onto first needle for heel.
Make heel: With WS of work facing, join
MC to 24 (28-34) heel sts and proceed as follows:

All Sizes: Shape Instep: With RS of work facing, MC, and first needle, pick up and knit 12 (14-18) sts along left side of heel. With second needle, knit across 24 (28-34) sts for instep.With third needle, pick up and knit 12 (14-18) sts along right side of heel. Knit first 7 (8-9) sts from heel onto end of third needle. Slip rem 7 (8-9) sts from heel onto beg of first needle. 62 (72-88) sts are now divided as 19 (22-27) sts on first needle, 24 (28-34) sts on second needle and 19 (22-27) sts on third needle.
1st rnd: 1st needle: Knit to last 4 sts.K2tog. K2. 2nd needle:Knit. 3rd needle:K2. Sl1K. K1. psso. Knit to end of needle.
2nd rnd: Knit.
Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, rep last 2 rnds until there are 48 (52-60) sts divided as 12 (12-13) sts on first needle, 24 (28-34) sts on second needle and 12 (12-13) sts on third needle.
Cont even until foot from picked up sts at heelmeasures approx 4 (5-6¼) ins [10 (12.5- 16) cm] ending with stripe of 6 rnds A.
Sizes 6-8 and Teen/Lady’s only:
Rearrange sts for toe as follows: Slip last (1- 2) st(s) from 2nd needle onto beg of 3rd needle. Slip first (1-2) st(s) from 2nd needle onto end of first needle. Sts are now divided as (13-15) sts on 1st and 3rd needles and (26-30) sts on 2nd needle. **
All Sizes: To make 1st toe (big toe): Miss first 12 (13-15) sts on first needle. Rejoin MC and K7 (8-9) from 2nd needle. Slip all but last 7 (8-9) sts onto a thread. Turn. Cast on 3 (3-4) sts. Turn. Knit last 7 (8-9) sts.
Divide these 17 (19-22) sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd.
Knit 14 (18-20) rnds even.
Next rnd: [K2 (3-4). K2tog] twice. [K2 (2- 3). K2tog] twice. K1 (1-0). 13 (15-18) sts.
Next rnd: [K1 (2-3). K2tog] twice. [K1 (1- 2). K2tog] twice. K1 (1-0). 9 (11-14) sts.

Knit 12 (16-18) rnds even.
Next rnd: [K2 (2-3). K2tog] twice. [K1 (2- 2). K2tog] twice. K1 (0-1). 11 (12-15) sts.
Next rnd: (K2tog) 5 (6-7) times. K1 (0-1). Break yarn. Thread end through rem 6 (6- 8) sts. Draw up and fasten securely.
To make 3rd toe: Slip next 5 (5-6) sts from thread. Turn.WithMC, cast on 2 (3-3) sts. Turn. Knit last 5 (5-6) sts. Pick up and knit 2 (3-3) sts at base of second toe.Divide these 14 (16-18) sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd. Knit 10 (12-16) rnds even.
Next rnd: [K1 (2-3). K2tog] twice. (K2. K2tog) twice. 10 (12-14) sts.
Next rnd: (K2tog) 5 (6-7) times. Break yarn. Thread end through rem 5 (6- 7) sts. Draw up and fasten securely.
To make 4th toe: Slip next 4 (4-5) sts from thread. Turn. With A, cast on 2 (2-3) sts. Turn. Knit last 4 (4-5) sts. Pick up and knit 2 (3-3) sts at base of third toe. Divide these 12 (13-16) sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd. Knit 8 (10-14) rnds even.
Next rnd: [K1 (1-2). K2tog] twice. [K1 (1- 2). K2tog] twice. K0 (1-0). 8 (9-12) sts.
Next rnd: (K2tog) 4 (4-6) times. K0 (1-0). Break yarn. Thread end through rem 4 (5- 6) sts. Draw up and fasten securely.
To make 5th toe (baby toe): Slip last 6 (8- 8) sts from thread. With MC, pick up and knit 2 (2-3) sts at base of fourth toe. Divide these 8 (10-11) sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd. Knit 6 (8-12) rnds even.
Next rnd: (K2tog) 4 (5-5) times. K0 (0-1). Break yarn. Thread end through rem 4 (5- 6) sts. Draw up and fasten securely.
RIGHT SOCK
Work from ** to ** as given for Left Sock.
All Sizes: To make 1st toe (big toe): Miss
first 12 (13-15) sts on first needle.Miss first 17 (18-21) sts on second needle.
Rejoin MC and knit next 14 (16-18) sts. Slip all remsts onto a thread.Turn.Cast on 3 (3- 4) sts. Divide these 17 (19-22) sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd.
Work remainder of Right Sock as given for Left Sock.
Plain Socks
Work as given for Striped Socks omitting all
reference to Stripe Pat.

I used to love wearing toe socks! They were everywhere, and came in so many colors. I love the black and white shown here, and would make a pair in multiple other colors also. When I work on double pointed needles I worry that my stitches will fall off, but I will definitely be making a few pairs of these!
