I made this shawl and got to the cast off row but it doesn't say which cast off to use. Is it just a plain knit cast-off?

Since it doesn't say, I would assume that it was a simple cast off. The pattern looks as if it would be fine with it. I checked the original pattern from Red Heart and it doesn't specify which cast off to use, so whatever you want to use should be fine.

Thanks very much for replying so quickly! C.H.

You're welcome!

I have tried to do this pattern over 20 times. It just doesn't work out( has there been a correction to the pattern by chance?

Hi there! I checked Red Heart's site and the pattern seems to be the same (no corrections). Here is the URL if that is helpful! http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/knit-lace-shawl If you have a question about a particular part of the pattern, I can ask our resident knitting expert! Let me know! -Editors of FaveCrafts

I'd love to wear this pattern over my outfit on a fall day. It looks so pretty!

If I didn't see it here on FaveCrafts, I would think this came from an expensive boutique! The texture and rich color make this shawl an instant classic that I could see going with so many outfits.

What a gorgeous pattern!

So I came back to this after a while, checked out some instructional videos and finally figured out what I was doing wrong! Now I am excited to knit this!

Hi ELynn--We're so glad! We'd love to see a picture of it when you're done!--FaveCrafts Editors

On row one I have 4 extra stitches after doing the pattern and do not understand row 3 says to last 9 stitches when it shows 13 stitches left in the pattern- also a difference of 4. I just can't figure out what I am doing wrong- HELP!

Hi ELynne--Thanks for your comment. I'll look into finding the original pattern on Red Heart yarn and see if there has been a pattern correction recently. Thanks for letting us know!--FC Editors

I think I have the 1st row figured out, but still baffled about row 3. Thanks for checking. It could be I am not interpreting it correctly.

I take that back about row 1 - the numbers just don't work out. It drives me nuts when I can't figure out the pattern!

I suspect that you are doing one of two things wrong-either you have an extra "yo" which is adding a stitch for each repeat or you are not completing the psso correctly-the yo adds a stitch and the psso reduces the stitch-you have to equal number of each in a row for the stitch count to stay consistent-basically you can't do one without the other. hope this helps.

Will this pattern work with only one strand of yarn? Can I use thicker yarn instead of using two strands of yarn? Thanks! Olivia

Hi Livie78--Absolutely! You can use thicker yarn to achieve a similar look. The double strands gives the look of a thicker shawl, but you can also make this with one strand...you'll just get a thinner piece. Hope that helps! --FaveCrafts Editor

I made this and put a fringe on the ends. It's easy and I plan on making it again. Instructions were very clear and easy to understand.

I like it its so nice and beautiful

This is really beautiful, I love lace!

This is so helpful. I don't have a car, so going to a nearby craft shop is almost impossible. This is truly wonderful to find such lovely patterns. Everyone always receives something homemade with love, so I thank you for this.

It is always best to work with the yarn coming from 2 balls rather than make a ball of the two yarns and work them as one. The reason being that you never have the strands totally even. Some how there is always one strand longer than the other and it does make the work more complicated. Then having a third ball as the instruction call for, work both end of that last ball together One from the outside of the ball and one from the inside. Only be carefull to pull out from the very center but if you get a larger amount, don't worry, it will be eventually worked and then you will be sailing.

Do you know if this pattern works with only once strand of yarn?

For the person who asked about holding the yarn. You would hold two strands (one from each ball of yarn of the same color) together throughout. That means it calls for two strands knitted together throughout the whole pattern. It is just making it thicker. I am going to try this. I was looking for an easy knit shawl pattern to make for my mother-in-law. This is perfect.

I am confused about one thing on the on the easy lace knitting pattern to make a shawl. It says (With 2 strands held together throughout, cast on 61 sts.). Does this mean for the entire pattern or just that row. I am a beginner and would like to know so I am not making a mistake at the beginning. Does two strand together mean two different balls of yarn or what? I understand the rest of the pattern. The pattern looks really nice and I would like to make it for my friend in the Netherlands. Thanks for your reply Harriet Engstrom

It looks lovely and can't wait to try it. I think I will do it in white for the first one. It seems simple to make. I haven't knitted in over a year, but you just don't forget something you have enjoyed so much before in doing among other things. Thank you for the pattern. God Bless
