    Houndstooth Knit Pillow

    MATERIALS

    • Bernat® Roving
    • (100 g/3.5 oz) (109 m/ 120 yds)
    • 3 balls of Main Color (MC)
    • (#00033 Flint)
    • 1 ball of Contrast A
    • (#00032 Putty)
    • Knitting Needles: sizes 6 mm (U.S. 10) and 6.5 mm (U.S. 10½) or size needed to obtain gauge.
    • 18 ins [45.5 cm] square pillow form.

    MEASUREMENTS
    Approx 18 ins [45.5 cm] square (excluding edging).

    GAUGE
    12 sts and 16 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

    INSTRUCTIONS
    FRONT
    With MC and larger needles, cast on 56 sts.
    Foundation row: (WS). Purl.
    1st row: K1. *K3, then pass first of these 3 sts over the 2nd and 3rd sts. Rep from * to last st. K1.
    2nd row: With A, P1. *Insert right hand needle from behind under running thread between the st just worked and next st, then purl this thread. P2. Rep from * to last st. P1.
    3rd row: K2. *K3, then pass first of these 3 sts over the 2nd and 3rd sts. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
    4th row: With MC, P3. *Insert right hand needle from behind under running thread between the st just worked and next st, then purl this thread. P2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2.
    Rep last 4 rows for texture pat until 18 ins [45.5 cm] total length ending on a 4th row of pat. With MC, cast off knitwise.
    Side edging: (RS). With smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 52 sts evenly along side edge.
    Knit 6 rows (garter st). Cast off knitwise (WS). Rep along opposite side edge.
    Top and Bottom edging: (RS).
    With smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 60 sts evenly across top edge (including ends of side edging). Knit 6 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS). Rep across bottom edge.

    BACK
    With MC, cast on 55 sts.
    Work in stocking st until 18 ins [45.5 cm] total length, ending with a purl row. Cast off.

    FINISHING
    Place WS of Front and Back tog and sew 3 sides tog, leaving edging free. Insert pillow form.
    Sew rem side closed.
