No-Sew Bobbin Necklace Gift Idea Made with Fabric Fuse
-
Making the Fabric Spool: Measure the inside portion of the spool where the fabric will lay. (Mine was 5/8″ high.) Cut a strip of fabric to this width. Then wrap around and trim as needed so it overlaps approximately 1/4″ on the back of the spool. Now use a small bead of Fabric Fuse™ Liquid Adhesive around the top and bottom long edges of the small fabric strip. Wrap around the spool to secure, then put a small line of glue on the overlapping 1/4″ section and press down to secure.

Making the Thread Spool: I love using the Aurifil Wool thread! It’s a nice thick thread that covers the spool well and comes in some lovely colors. I chose a dark pink and light pink to compliment the fabric choices I made. To make this necklace put a small vertical stripe of the fabric fuse along the back side of the small spool. Starting in the back with the darker thread, wrap the spool until it’s completely covered. Place a small dab of Fabric Fuse on the back, trim the thread, and place in the glue to secure. Starting in the center back, place another small dab of glue and start the lighter thread. Wrap around the center to make a stripe. Secure in the back just as you did the thicker thread.
-
To complete the necklace, drop a bit of the chain inside the spool center. Use a jump ring to secure the gold charm to the end of the chain. Wrap the chain around the top to make a loop and close the necklace with a jump ring a few chain pieces above the top of the spool.

I would definitely make this bobbin necklace for myself. It's so darn cute. I think I'd use fabric strips with darker colors , though, to go along with my wardrobe.

I think my friends get more excited over what I make than I do! They are always asking what I am making or what I am recycling this time. This is going to really surprise them. I have a ton of old spools in a box in the closet. Time to dig them out and have fun. I even have mini ones for earrings!
