DIY "Sex and the City" Shoes Tutorial
Instead of spending lots of cash on a new pair of stilettos, make your own sexy pumps for your next night out. Let’s show some Carrie Bradshaw love and recreate the shoes that prompted the line “Hello lover…” This DIY "Sex and the City Shoes" Tutorial is the perfect prelude to cosmos and conversations with your best girlfriends.

Materials:
- Shoes with an ankle and toe strap (you could even do this with a flat sandal, don't be afraid)
- Ribbon
- Coordinating Needle and Thread/Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Pins
- Matches
Instructions:
-
I pulled out an old pair of shoes from my closet, any shoe with an ankle and toe strap would work.
-
I decided to work with a wide, black, grosgrain ribbon. (but think tulle, organza, or suede for additional options with color and texture) Begin by measuring, on your own foot, the length of the base ribbon. This is the length from the ankle strap to the toe strap.
-
Fold the ends of the ribbon over the straps and pin in place, then sew. I used a contrasting thread to show the stitches
-
See how your ankle strap slides right through? At the bottom I stitched it in place, but you could also sew on Velcro to make it removable. Switch it out to match each outfit! Oh, we’re onto something here...
-
Now, begin cutting the ribbons for your loops. You will need 5 ribbons: 3 inches, 3 ½ inches, 4 inches , 4 ½ inches, and 5 inches in length (cut two of everything, of course). It is really important to burn the edges of each raw end of ribbon after cutting, to avoid fraying.
-
Now stitch each length into a loop. (You might be able to glue this if you aren’t sewer)
-
Now begin to attach each loop, overlapping the last, onto the base ribbon. Begin at the bottom:
-
The four ribbons should be sewn onto the base like this:
-
Now, leave your smallest loop round and tack it, from the inside bottom, onto the base ribbon, like this:
-
Tada! You really could match any dress with one basic strappy sandal. Imagine if these straps were a nude color...the possibilities!!! Carrie Bradshaw would approve. Let’s hear it… “Hello lover…”
I’ll be looking for you when you wear these babies out on the town. You’ll be the one strutting your stuff, right?

Wow, how creative! There are so many possibilities to use this tutorial and the shoes are fashionable too. These aren't just for heels either.

You can also use this idea for flip flops. Just use your imagination.! I don't wear heels as I am 6 feet tall, but you can most certainly use this idea for other sandals.

Why are these controversial? I don't get that. Wish I could wear heels again - I'd have these done up in a NY minute!

What could possibly be controversial about shoes? someone has too much free time on their hands if they have to make a fuss over stupid stuff!

I can see myself in a pair of heels like those. NOT! I hate high heels. Gave them up a l-o-n-g time ago. Give me my Birkenstocks any day of the week.

Though I admit there are a couple things I don't really think are inspiring on favecraft's this isn't one of them. My difficulty is I haven't been able to find anything that would lend itself to this project. :(

Really ugly shoes and really bad for your back too!

The design does not have to be followed exactly, it is great for inspiration. You also don't have to use Stiletto's to create this effect. Lower heeled plain sandals would also work fine. My only problem is that most of the sandals I see already have this space filled in. I may have to look for some comfortable sandals that I wouldn't mind removing the t-section and replacing with a ribbon or rhinestone center for a sexier look.

While I would never wear them, I think if you like the, you should make them!

Great idea. You don't have to make individual loops, or a base strip. Just fold one piece of ribbon into individual loops, sewing each loop as you go.Then fit into toe and heel as your instruct. This is a super easy way to vamp up shoes or sandals. Thanks for the pictures. Keep up the good work.

so the shoes aren't for everyone and I don't watch Sex and the city, out of the city or whatever..but it does give you ideas on what you can do with shoes, sandles etc..

What a cute tutorial. However, it is driving me insane. The show is titled, "Sex AND the city". Not in the city.
