Thick Nubby Crochet Cap
Keep warm this winter by using one of our free crochet hat patterns to make this thick nubby crochet hat from Premier Yarns! This hat is both stylish and practical, and its chunky texture will keep you warm all the time.
Size: Finished hat measures approximately 20” in circumference and stretches to fit most women.
Materials:
- Yarn: Deborah Norville Fashion Paper Flowers™ by Premier® Yarns (54% Nylon/45% Wool; 1.76 ounces/50 grams; 38 yards/35 meters per ball)
- DNF11-07 Mums – 2 balls
- Crochet Hook: US P-19 (15mm) or size to obtain gauge
- Extras: Yarn needle
Gauge: 2 dc = 1"; 2 rows = 1 3/4". Use any size needles to obtain specified gauge.
Abbreviations:
beg – beginning; ch – chain; dc – double crochet; dc 2 tog – double crochet 2 sts together; mm – millimeter; rem – remaining; rep – repeat; RS – right side; st(s) – stitch(es); WS – wrong side; [ ] – repeat instructions in brackets the number of times specified; * – repeat instructions after asterisk as specified.
HAT:
Ch 17.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across, turn – 14 dc.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn – 14 dc. Rep Row 2 until piece measures approx 20". Fasten off.
Fold piece in half widthwise, sew back seam.
Shape Crown
Rnd 1: Working along top edge of hat with RS facing, join yarn, ch 3, work 36 dc evenly spaced around, join with a sl st to first dc – 36 dc.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, *dc 2 tog; rep from * around, join with a sl st to first dc – 18 dc.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, *dc 2 tog, dc; rep from * around, join with a sl st to first dc – 12 dc.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, *dc 2 tog; rep from * around, join with a sl st to first dc – 6 dc. Fasten off, leaving an 8" tail.
Finishing
Weave tail through rem sts and pull tight to close. Weave in ends.
