As far as the size of yarn goes I would guess the designer took for granted that you would match the size yarn with the size of the hook. A C-size hook would be used with a thin yarn probably a sock yarn or a sport-weight.

LizRay when she is talking about the shell pattern in step 9 you are going to use the middle stitch of the three from previous row. I hope this helps!

I am trying to make these and I am using Red Heart yarn and the c hook but it seems like to me that the toe area is awfully big!!!! Is it suppose to be?

@wolfangel 1959 it could be that these sock directions are given to fit large feet. If you would like more information regarding the size, I suggest contacting the designer directly. You can find her info in the byline to this project. She would probably be able to give you a gauge or a better idea of what size this sock is! Thanks!

@Member 9829133 That's a great point. Since we work so often with bloggers, we usually rely on them to help us when it comes to difficultly level. When it's given, we are always sure to include it to make it easier to search and find patterns.

Re: Fireside Socks: The author of the pattern says to use a C hook and yarn of your choice. Can she be a bit more specific? Did she use a worsted weight yarn, or a sport weight yarn? Can she give a rough idea of size for each and possibly a gauge to check? Jeanne

@gramma3 Good question! Your best bet would be to contact the designer directly. You can find the name of her blog in the byline above. She'll be able to tell you what kind of yarn she used, but my guess is it doesn't matter quite that much. Thanks!

Hi, LizRay. Your best bet if you have a specific question about a pattern is to contact the pattern designer directly, as specified in the byline. You might also try posting your question on our site's Facebook page. It is monitored by the editor and is a great resource for helpful tips and suggestions from our Facebook friends; perhaps they can offer some guidance! LizRay on step #9 about the shell you are going to do 3 sc in one stitch, and then each row after that you will use the middle stitch of the shell for your shell! I hope this helps.
