Crochet GaugeThe gauge for the Christmas tree is 7 sts x 6 rows of SC in 2” (5 cm) square. Using a US 10/J 6.0 mm Crochet hook. Work your stitches tightly to keep stuffing from showing through.

Tree

With Lion Brand Homespun in Forest and a US 10/J 6.0mm hook

Create a Magic Circle and SC 10 into the circle.

Pull tight, but do not join. We will be working in continuous rounds. Mark the first st of the round with a stitch marker, and move up with each new round.

  1. Round 1: Inc in each st around. (20 sts)

  2. Rounds 2 - 6: SC around. (20 sts)

  3. Round 7: FPSC around.

  4. Round 8: *(HDC, DC 2, HDC) all in the first st (branch made), sk 1, sl st* rep from * to * around to last 2 sts, (HDC, DC 2, HDC) all in the next st, sk 1. (7 branches)

    We are now going to work into the top of the last sc round before the FPSC round.

  5. Round 9: *SC, inc* rep from * to * around. (30 sts)

  6. Round 10: SC around. (30 sts)

  7. Round 11: FPSC around.

  8. Round 12: *(HDC, DC 2, HDC) all in the first st, sk 1, sl st* rep from * to * around. (10 branches)

    Working into the top loops of round 8, (From here on out you will always work the row after the branches into the top loops of the round behind the FPSC round.)

Tree skirt

With Lion Brand Homespun in Shaker and a US 10.5/K 6.5mm hook

The tree skirt is worked with a larger hook than the tree creating a loose and flowing fabric. Gauge is 6 sts x 6 rows in a 2” (2.5 cm) square.

Create a Magic Circle and SC 6 into the circle. Pull tight, but do not join. We will be working in continuous rounds. Mark the first st of the round with a stitch marker, and move up with each new round.

  1. Round 1: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

  2. Round 2: *SC, inc* rep from * to * around. (18 sts)

  3. Round 3: *SC 2, inc*, rep from * to * around. (24 sts)

  4. Round 4: *Inc, SC 3 *, rep from * to * around. (30 sts)

  5. Round 5: *Inc, SC 4*, rep from * to * around. (36 sts)

  6. Round 6: *SC 5, inc*, rep from * to * around. (42 sts)

  7. Round 7: *SC 6, inc*, rep from * to * around. (48 sts)

  21. Ruffle:

    Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as the first st), DC in same st, 2 DC in each st around, sl st into beginning ch. F/O, weave in end using a tapestry needle. (240)

Assembly

If you haven’t already, make sure the tree is fully stuffed. Lay the cardboard circle over the stuffing and inside the edges of the tree. Flip the tree upright, centering it on top of the tree skirt. (Make sure the right side is facing up). Using safety pins, pin the last row of the tree to the skirt all the way around to hold it in place. Once you are happy with the placement, use a tapestry needle and the tail of the tree to attach the bottom edge of the tree to the tree skirt. Work through the last row (FPSC) of the tree and through to the bottom of the skirt to make sure it is completely secure.

Battery Wrap Presents(make 1 for each battery pack)

With Lion Brand 24/7 cotton in colors Lilac, Purple, Rose, & Tangerine and a US 5/F (3.75 mm) Crochet hook

The lights I used have a battery pack that measures 2” wide x 3” long (5 x 7.5 cm). If your battery pack is larger, you may need to adjust the starting chain, or number of rows worked.

The cotton yarn will stretch, and you want it to be snug on your battery pack. Make sure your stitches are tight. Gauge for the battery pack is 10 sts x 10 rows in 2” (5 cm) square.

  1. Round 1: Ch 9. Working into the back bump of the chain, work 3 SC into the first st, SC 7, 3 SC in the last st. Turn to work down the opposite side of the chain. SC 7. (20 sts)

    Do not join, we will be working in continuous rounds. Mark the first st of the round with a marker and move up with each new round.

  2. Round 2: *Inc, SC, Inc, SC 7*, rep * to *. (24 sts)

  3. Rounds 3 – 18: SC around. On last round, check to make sure your wrap fits the length of your battery pack. If not, work more rows until it does. Sl st 2 times, F/O, weave in ends.

    Slide the wrap over the battery pack.

  4. Ribbon and bows: (make 1 for each battery pack)

    With Lion Brand 24/7 cotton in white and a US 5/F (3.75mm) Crochet hook

  5. Ribbon:

    Row 1: Ch 25, SC in 2nd chain and across, turn. (24 sts)

    Row 2: Ch 1, SC across, F/O leaving a 4” tail.

    Wrap the ribbon around the battery pack sleeve and use a tapestry needle and the tail to secure the ends together. Once the ends are secure, sew the ribbon to the wrap on the bottom to keep it from coming off.

  6. Bow:

    Row 1: *Ch 10, SC in 2nd ch and across, fold the piece to create a loop, sl st 2 to join*. [Rep * to *, sl st into the end of the previous loop to connect.] 3 times. (4 loops total). F/O leaving a tail to attach to the top of the ribbon. Using a tapestry needle attach the bow to the top of the battery pack wrap securing the ribbon to the wrap in the process.

    The bottom part of the light wire, closest to the battery pack is a thicker plastic, and was an eye sore on my tree. I used the left-over yarn from the tree to wrap around the wire to camouflage it.

    Beginning at the top of the tree, wrap the lights around placing them above the branch rounds and working down the entire tree. Lay the battery pack presents around the base of the tree and tuck in any remaining wire under the presents.

Star (make 2)

With Lion Brand 24/7 cotton in Goldenrod and a US 4/E (3.5mm) Crochet hook

Create a Magic Circle and SC 6 into the circle.

Pull tight, but do not join. We will be working in continuous rounds. Mark the first st of the round with a stitch marker, and move up with each new round.

  1. Round 1: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

  2. Round 2: *SC, inc* rep from * to * around. (18 sts)

  3. Round 3: *SC 2, inc*, rep from * to * around. (24 sts)

  4. Round 4: *Inc, SC 3 *, rep from * to * around. (30 sts)

  5. *Star Points, worked in turned rows.

  6. Row 1: SC 6, turn. (6 sts)

  7. Rows 2-3: Ch 1, SC 6, turn. (6 sts)

  8. Row 4: SC dec, SC 2, SC dec, turn. (4)

  9. Row 5: Ch 1, SC 4, turn. (4 sts)

  10. Row 6: SC dec, 2 times, turn. (2 sts)

  11. Row 7: SC dec, turn. (1 sts)

  12. Turn to work down the side of the point, Ch 1, SC 6.

  13. Rep from * four more times.

  14. Working all around the outside of the star, [SC 6 up the side of the point, SC 3 in top of point, SC 6 down the side of the point] 5 times. Sl st to first SC of round. F/O first star, Do not F/O second star.

  15. Line up both stars with WS facing in and RS facing out. Sl st two stars together around the perimeter until 1 side of the last point remains. Stuff with Poly-fil, sl st remaining side closed. F/O. Weave in ends. Sew star to the top of the tree.

  16. Weave in any ends, and enjoy!
