    Recycled Egg Carton Earrings

Your ideas for homemade earrings probably don't include egg cartons, right? Well change the way you think about DIY jewelry designs and create your own Recycled Egg Carton Earrings. These danglers are sophisticated, pretty and oh so versatile.

    Materials:

    • Egg carton (fibre paper type)
    • Scissors
    • Tombow Dual Brush Pen – Turquoise
    • Prima Chalk Ink – Pastel Blue, Pastel Yellow
    • Small hole punch
    • Fishhook earring findings
    • Jewelry pliers
    • Optional: spray sealer

    Instructions:

    1. Cut desired shape from flat portion of egg carton.

    2. Using brush tip, apply turquoise ink on both front and back and on sides. Let dry.

    3. Apply chalk ink over turquoise ink, applying just enough color for a dry-brush effect. You only want to highlight the raised portions with the chalk ink. Let dry.

    4. Punch holes for jewelry findings.

    5. If desired, spray front and back with spray sealer in matte or gloss. Please note that it will take many coats to get a glossy finish on the earrings because the fiber paper really soaks it up!

    6. Attach fishhook earrings.

What? Earrings out of a egg carton! And it is so easy and they do look elegant. I love that you are recycling to make these earrings. The fact that you can cut out your own shape to make it different is such a great idea. I just wonder if they will be too flimsy if you do not add a stiffener or sealant to them. Anyone make these yet?

I have to admit, I was hesitant that these would be worth clicking on to look at...As they say, "never judge a book...etc!" These are unique and lovely! A great idea for a recycled project that doesn't have the recycled "look"! Are they delicate to wear? If they are, is there something that could be applied to harden them to be more durable? Anyway, I love it!
