This placemat pattern looks awesome! You can pick whichever two colors to use, and make a set of these. I love the idea of making these for a housewarming gift, or a wedding present. I think the recipient would really appreciate the thought and effort it takes to make these. There are so many color options, you can make a set for any color scheme.

I believe the Bernat Handicrafter Cotton yarn is a worsted weight yarn, not a thread. If this is true, does anyone know how many place mats the recommended amount of yarn will make? If I'm reading the pattern correctly, it calls for 550 g of yarn, but does specify how many place mats that amount of yarn will make. Here's a link to Joann's website about this yarn http//www.joann.com/bernat-handicrafter-cotton-yar == n-340g-400g/xprd529957.html

I think if you made small granny squares and use your scape yarn up you can make this sit up to look the same. Just hook the squares with yarn and needle and put a nice edge on it and there you have it. a patch work place mat. You can also cut scrap fabric and make the postage stamp block or like a 9 patch block and you can get the same thing. Then hand quit. This would be good for someone that is just starting out in crocheting or quiting.

This is just using cotton string. What would happen if you used Redheart yarn? You could still use a small sized hook (like an F or a G) but would that make it bigger?

I have found instead of trying to download and print patterns it is much simplier to copy the pattern and paste it onto a page in MS Word, thereby having the ability to save it in a file for later use. It also gives me the ability to move the lines around, change fonts and print on a page that is much easier to read.

I agree whoeheartedly that their patterns are not printer friendly. I can only get my printer to print one page and then it says error. It is not my printer because I have no problems printing other things. I wish they would go back to the old way of having "print" just above the pattern. I don't know why they changed their way of doing it. I contacted them about the problem, but cannot figure out what they want me to do to show them what is on my screen. I sent what I thought they requested, but got no reply back. I have wasted more paper trying to print out some of these patterns. Are others having any problems?

If only there were printer-friendly versions of this pattern other than printing out three pages all at once, 2 pages completely useless.I also love thgis pattern! )
