Legally Adorable Doggy Tote
Tote your little dog around in style with this Legally Adorable Doggy Tote from Erika Lindquist. Similar to the bag made famous in the movie, Legally Blonde, this fun and funky dog craft is a great way to travel with your BFF.
Materials:
- Old tote
- Scissors
- Chalk
- Double Fold Bias Tape
- Sewing machine
Instructions:
-
First, I cut out an oval shape on paper to be traced onto the side of the bag with chalk.
-
Then I cute it out with some sturdy shears.
-
I covered the raw edges with double fold bias tape and then stitched a straight line on my sewing machine to attach it to the tote. (I'm sure there's many other methods of doing this part!)
-
There you have it!

I have seen these doggy totes in the pet stores but never thought to make one because my dogs are too big but for the small pet owners this is genius. This is a great way to recycle a old purse or tote and if you do not have one than why not look at the thrift store, yard sales or ask a friend or neighbor if they have any they are not using. Add some of your own touch to personalize it like ribbons, flowers or lace. So easy and so fast. Very nice tutorial.

How about a full size pattern of the oval shape? How did u determine what size it should be? I assume you would need a pretty sturdy tote, was the one in pictures lined canvas or something similar?

@HRHCraftQueenie For the oval shape, you can measure the width of your dog's chest to get a good idea of how wide it needs to be. And depending on the size of the dog, yes, a sturdy tote is best :) Hope that helps!
