How to Make Polymer Clay Fairy Doors

Use polymer clay to add to your fairy collection. This is a cool project you'll want to put together on your own. You even get to use a pasta machine if you have one.

Materials:

  • Pigment powders
  • Woodgrain Polymer Clay (see tutorial below)
  • Black Polymer Clay
  • Wax Paper
  • Texture Plates
  • Pasta machine or rolling pin
  • Polymer clay carving tools

Instructions:

  1. Massage clay to soften it until it is the desired consistency. Do not over soften the clay.
  2. Roll out clay into a sheet and press the texture plate into the sheet of clay. Make sure you put enough pressure on the plate so that the image is properly transferred.

  3. Peel off texture plate and cut the desired shaped door into the clay using your carving tool.

  4. Dip finger into Pearl Ex pigment powder and gently rub on top of door, trying not to get the powder into the textured sections.

  5. Use a different color to paint the inside of the textured sections. I recommend using a darker color for this part.

  6. Use a different color to paint the inside of the textured sections. I recommend using a darker color for this part.

  7. Using the woodgrain clay design, cut planks of "wood" and create a door step that is a suitable size in comparison to the door.

  8. Place all pieces onto a baking sheet that has been covered in foil. Bake at 275 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 40 minutes, or 30 minutes per 6mm.

  9. Sand down rough edges on both the bottom of the door and the base. When done sanding, wipe off the dust that's been created from sanding.

  10. Glue door to base and hold in place till dry.

I got hooked on this after seeing some in a local boutique. They wanted a fortune for them. I decided right then to make my own. Polymer clay is such a forgiving medium that I tried one piece over and over until I got it the way I wanted. This is very easy, just be patient.

Another idea for birthday giveaways!

Tried this craft? What did you think?

Fairy gardens are so cute but this is an easier way than running around trying to find all the miniature pieces you need. Just make them yourself with this polymers clay ! Buying miniature pieces can be quite pricey too.

These little doors are so adorable! They feed my inner child. I can just picture little fairies coming in and out of them.

Where was this craft when I was a kid? Looks amazing!

my great grand daughters would love for me to help them do this project -- but you do not give enough information!! (

how do you make the decorations and door knobs?

And the woodgrain tutorial is... where?
