Materials List

  • An old book (and it doesn’t matter if it’s soft or hard cover)
  • Candle stick
  • Door knob
  • Buttons
  • Hot glue

Instructions

  1. First start by folding each page of the book. Take the top right corner and fold it into the crease of the book, then take that folded angled edge and fold it a second time into the crease of the book. Fold the bottom of the page up.

  2. Continue this process with every page of the book. Once it’s done, sit the book upright and the pages will fan out to form the shape of a Christmas tree.

  3. Next glue the base of the book onto an old candle stick. You can use silver, brass, glass, wood or any small candle stick you can find. It’s great way to give old candle sticks a new life.

  4. Next, glue a door knob onto the top of the tree and embellish with buttons. You can create any type of tree you can imagine using a variety of old and new buttons.

  5. Add any more embellishments onto the tree like a piece or ribbon for garland and there you have it... your old books are well read as Christmas home decor!

One of the comments below says that she remembers doing this craft as a kid! For me, this is the first time I have ever seen this craft and I think it is ingenious. There is really no limit to how many different looks you can create by suing different candlesticks, different embellishments. I would even put a few drops of essential oil in a Christmas scent between the pages of the old books!

Not all old books should get burned or thrown away. This project makes use of the entire book so it's not just a few pages. I love how relaxing it is folding the pages, almost like making origami. Plus if you have some leftover ornament like beads and buttons you can add them to your mini Christmas tree.

For those that want something different for a Christmas decoration look no further because this folded book Christmas Tree is just the perfect one. Great way to use up those old books you no longer want or you can pick some up at the thrift store. use some old buttons and some old chain or ribbon, a candle holder and a knob or a small star for the top. A great way to recycle those leftover things and create something beautiful. Thanks for the great idea and video and written tutorial.

I love the look of these trees! Am anxious to try this out one day. Thank you for sharing this idea!

I absolutely love these. I've never made one before, but I love books, so I would 100% display these.

I remember doing this as a kid. It is a great way to reuse old books. We used old t.v. guides. This was fun to do and it took some time to make. If you want a great looking tree, take your time and don't rush through folding the pages. Now days there are so many ways to decorate your paper book trees and I found a small battery operated string of christmas lights to use. Love this old time craft. Thank you for sharing this Folded Book Christmas Tree craft.
